"For the past 15 years Mike from Shamrock Electric has done extensive electrical work for two homes. He is personable, reliable, knowledgeable and fastidious. Recently he returned for a smaller job and completing a delicate onyx sconce installation with the same skill and expertise. I’m always confident that the job has been done right when Mike does my electrical work. I highly recommend him. He is a pro!"

"PKJ Electrical is the most professional electrician's I have ever hired. They were on time, courteous and very knowledgeable. They replaced my breaker box. I have never before seen the wires so neat and organized as I did after he was finished with my job. I will only hire PKJ for all of my future electrical needs. Thank you again for such a wonderful experience."

Customers say: Quality work

"We highly recommend Leone & Sons Electric. We have been homeowners for over 30 years and I can honestly say he is he best electrician we have had the pleasure working with. He is very reliable, he made good suggestions, does excellent work and came within our budget. Just like us, he believes in karma which in our eyes makes him very honest and trustworthy. If needed, I would use him again."

"DZ Electric has come to our rescue on more than one occasion over the past two years; has always been quick to respond, super friendly, and more-than reasonably priced. They resolved an issue I was having with a hot tub, replaced an entire electrical panel, installed motion detector lights, and even restored our 30+ year-old landscaping lights because I was too stubborn to find replacementsâ ¦BTW they are beautiful once again! Their most recent visit is a true testament to how GREAT they areâ ¦.it was not to my home. My husband and I had been looking forward to a weekâ s vacation on our boat when its air conditioning failed. After days of having multiple marine technicians on board not able to locate the problem, I decided to call Darren at DZ Electric. He responded immediately and met with us that same afternoon. Our boat was unfamiliar territory to Darren, but he was willing to do whatever it took to help us, and was confident he would find the problem. Darren returned, on time as always, with Rob and Orlandoâ ¦and they immediately got to work. They were laser focused on one thing, getting us back in vacation mode. Not only did they find the problem, they FIXED the problemâ ¦. all within a few hours!! They went above and beyond for us; working in very tight quarters-in extreme heat and humidity, and never complained about it. Even left our boat cleaner than they found it. They salvaged our vacationâ ¦my heroes!! We are very grateful, and would never consider using anyone else for an electrical issue. Thanks guys, you truly are the BEST!!!"

Electrical questions, answered by experts

You can install a three-prong outlet without connecting any ground and plug in three-prong electronics into that outlet. The devices will function normally, but you won’t get any of the protection that grounding provides, so there’s an increased risk of serious problems if something goes wrong.

A GFCI outlet is a type of electrical outlet that monitors the electricity flowing through the circuit and shuts off power immediately when it detects a loss or acceleration of current. They are particularly important in areas that may come in contact with water, which is why they're most common in kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms, and garages.

An AC disconnect, also known as a switch box or fuse box, is a safety switch that allows the AC’s electrical supply to be turned off from the outside, usually done by a mechanical contractor coming to work on your unit. The box is protected from the weather by a cover or may be designed as a pull-out unit. Your local code determines where the AC disconnect must be mounted, but it's usually close to your outdoor AC unit.

The standard voltage for United States power outlets isn’t shared around the world, and neither is the shape of the power connector. This is why you need travel adapters when spending time abroad. Where the United States typically uses 110/120V outlets, outlets in Europe typically use 220/240V. Power outlets can vary in other ways around the world, too. Not everyone uses the 60Hz frequency, for example, and not everyone even uses AC power in outlets. Always do your research when traveling to see what you need.

Often, simply looking at a Christmas light fuse will reveal whether it’s blown or not. Dark staining inside the glass that looks like a burn mark means the fuse has blown. If a burn mark isn’t evident, visually inspect the fuse for an intact filament inside. The fuse is no longer usable if the filament is broken or appears non-existent.
