"The Flooring Source installed floating luxury vinyl tile click flooring at my condo yesterday. They purchased the tiles, ripped up and disposed of old carpet and padding, added transition strips and installed painted 1/4 round to for a finished look. Karl Krebs coordinated the job and provided me with a detailed and accurate estimate in a timely manner. The company's flooring experts arrived on time, were extremely professional and highly skilled. I had complete faith in them and was able to leave my condo while they did the necessary work. They did a fantastic job, arriving right on time at 8:30AM and finishing by the afternoon of the same day! This was impressive because work involved replacing flooring in the living room, dining area and hallway. If you want to have the job done right, without being overcharged or inconvenienced (no cancelled appointments, change in fees, etc.)--call The Flooring Source. They are awesome. Quality work all the way. Thank you, HomeAdvisor, for making this renovation possible, quick and painless! I would not hesitate to recommend The Flooring Source. Their service is TOP NOTCH!"

"They originally came to clean two carpets but it morphed into several other pieces. They cleaned everything on-site and even took another rug with them to clean off-site. I paid for their services with much appreciation for the quality service, honesty, and promptness."

Carpet Installation questions, answered by experts

Carpet padding costs an average of $510 to purchase and install in a 225-square-foot room. The price can range from as low as $170 to as much as $850, depending on the brand, the thickness, and the labor cost. Although carpet padding will increase the overall cost of carpet installation, it also helps the carpet hold up longer, reduces noise in the room, and provides more insulation.

The difference between a 40-oz. and 60-oz. carpet is the carpet face weight, meaning the 60-oz. carpet weighs 20 ounces more per square yard. When looking at two similar carpets of the same material and type, the 60-oz. carpet face weight likely indicates higher quality and more durability due to heavier carpet fibers.

You can expect your carpet protection to last about six months to two years. It will last longer in low-traffic areas (compared to busy areas, where your carpet experiences more wear and tear). Once the protector wears off, you’ll need to call your carpet contractor to reapply the stain protection treatment and revive your carpet

Carpet installation typically starts with removing the old flooring, preparing the subfloor, laying underpadding for cushioning, and securing the new carpet with tack strips, making precise cuts to fit room dimensions.

When it comes to flooring installers, licensing laws vary from state to state. Even if your state doesn’t require your flooring installer to have a license, your municipality or city might, so it’s a good idea to check with your town before getting started. Be sure to check our state licensing tool to review the local general contractor guidelines.

Hiring an unlicensed flooring installer could lead to poor quality work, costly future expenses, and potential code violations.

As you browse our pro listings, take note of the “Angi Approved” badge. Angi Approved businesses meet our standards for certification which include:

  • The owner, principal, or relevant manager passed a criminal background check

  • Required to have applicable state and local licenses

  • Maintain an average star rating of 3.0 or better on our network, if they have at least one review

  • Paying to advertise their services

  • Meeting any other eligibility criteria required by Angi

Keep in mind licensing is different from certifications. A license is a legal requirement to operate a business, while certifications are voluntary.
