"I am beyond frustrated with Invisible Fence at the moment. Particularly Kim in Galway, NY. We had 3 collars that didn’t work. Two of them were nearly 20 years old so it’s understandable that they needed to be replaced. The other was less than a decade old and a Microlite that supposedly has a lifetime warranty. What they don’t tell you is that the lifetime warranty is void if you don’t use Invisible Fence brand batteries in it the entire time. Of course we didn’t! Invisible Fence batteries = $24 each, others $3-5. We have 4 dogs. First Kim tried to sell me new equipment saying we needed to upgrade. When she heard me on the phone saying we’re going have to switch to another invisible fence brand because she’s trying to sell us new stuff she suddenly changed her tune. So we purchased 3 new collars at $350 each (Kim was nice enough to give us $50 off of each if we traded in the old ones). All we had to do was switch something on the transmitter from 7XX to 8XX. Of course she wanted to do that (more $$$ for her) but we’ve had plenty of experience with the system and could do it ourselves. No problem. Done and the 3 new collars work. HOWEVER, we have one more collar that still worked. It still worked when the system was on 7XX. It doesn’t work on 8XX. I called and she said it was no problem just stop by and they’ll reprogram it. Great. We did that and came home and it still doesn’t work. I called and calmly told her that it still doesn’t work. It’s obvious there has been some miscommunication in her office. Her assistant that did the reprogramming said something about it being switched to 7XX, um no, it was supposed to be switched to 8XX. I was put on hold. Kim gets on the phone and all **** breaks loose and she tells me we need to buy another new collar because this isn’t compatible with that and blah, blah, blah. Needless to say I ended up hanging up on her (much better than me telling her where to go and what to stick where and exactly what I thought of her). I suspect this isn’t the first time she’s been hung up on."

"DO NOT HIRE THIS COMPANY!!! Fence installation is horrible, and Ryan actually tried to scam us out of more money. 4 to 5 day job lasted 4 weeks. Ryan was rarely there and his workeR looked like this was the first fence he ever did. BE AWARE!! Wish I could give a zero star rating."

Animal Fencing questions, answered by experts

Yes, installing wrought iron fencing will usually require a building permit, as do all types of fencing. Building permits for wrought iron fencing typically cost between $150 and $500, and the price will vary based on where you live and how much your local building department charges. You may also need to pay for a property survey if you’re installing wrought iron fencing on your property line. This type of survey can cost around $500, but it prevents issues with building on neighboring properties, which can be much more expensive in the long run.

The height of your garden fence depends on your goals and priorities. Do you need to keep rabbits out? Then you’ll need at least two feet in height to do so. Is it more of a privacy fence? For that, you’ll want to construct something at least 7 feet tall so that there’s little chance anyone can see over the fence. Some garden fences are purely decorative, in which case the height is up to you.

There are many types of wood fencing that you can choose from. For split rail fencing, the most common wood types are cedar, pine, black locust, and chestnut. The best wood for you will depend on if you like the way a certain wood looks and the availability of the wood type in your area.

Most of the wood types you can find at your local home improvement store are good choices since they all have rot-resistant properties or are pressure-treated with pesticides. If none of the wood options speak to the look you’re going for, check out vinyl fencing.

The best way to protect your pets from coyotes is to ensure they are always supervised when outside, especially during dawn and dusk when coyotes are the most active. When walking your dog, keep it on a short leash and carry something noisy you can use to haze any coyotes you may encounter.

When it comes to materials, wire fences are the cheapest option. The average cost for a 150-foot wire fence is $1,350. The next cheapest material is chain-link, followed by wood.

As far as the style of fence, smaller, less private fences are cheaper than large, elaborate fences that block your whole yard. That’s why split-rail fences are the cheapest option for wooden fences. They cost roughly $10 to $30 per linear foot.
