I brought a rescue cat to Estherville a long time ago. The cat was FIV positive and would have been put down anywhere else. Estherville has a separate building where these cats are isolated and they provide excellent care. The place has been in existence for three generations of the same family. The staff work very hard to keep all the animals happy and comfortable, even if they are not likely to be adopted. The cats have small, camp-like buildings with outdoor yards that are completely fenced so no escapes can happen. The cats can go in and out whenever they choose. The buildings have some heat so the animals are not cold. They are kept extremely clean. There is an abundance of dry food available at all times, and they get fed canned food on a regular schedule as well. No animal is killed at this shelter. They remain there until they are adopted, even if it takes a long time.o
