"This is a type of business that calls its customer a liar and thief. Who does that? I had a every other week pick up service with them simply because we don't produce that much garbage for every week pick up. We barely fill the trash can in two weeks. However, when they failed to pick up the garbage, I had to call because it will be three weeks of accumulation before it gets picked up. The response from the manager: I am lying and "cheaping out" on them, because the driver told him he did pick up (he is wrong, see below) and I put out the can every week. First, if it was not the week for pick up, you could have driven on and not picked up; you picked it up and now you are accusing me of "theft of service". Yes, that is the exact words the manager used. The can was put out just to make sure I didn't miss since sometimes we weren't sure if it's the pick up week. The driver can pick up if it's the week or just drive on if it's not the week. This way, I don't miss a pick up by mistake. How do I know if they missed the pickup? Because the can sat out at the side of the road for two weeks. I didn't move it, the trash is still in the can. I would have accepted their apology for missing the pick up and would have given them the pass if they took care of the trash; all I want was a reliable pick up going forward. However, after being called a liar and then thief, I can not give them the business. This is worse than missing the pick up. I seriously doubt if the manager has the proper sense of customer service; what kind of business resort to calling their customer names? I would rather put up with Cassella's unreliability (the reason I used Finger Lakes Refuse Disposal) than being treated like this. I cancelled them right away. Never going back to them."

Many homeowners wonder if a garbage disposal is necessary with a dishwasher. After all, many dishwashers are powerful enough to handle bits of food with no issues.  

Still, your dishwasher should not act as a replacement for a disposal. Subjecting your dishwasher to continuous leftovers could lead to major clogs. If you don’t want a garbage disposal in your kitchen, simply scrape away any extra food into your trash can or compost pile.

These appliances do unscrew, but you need to disconnect everything properly when you replace your garbage disposal. Make sure you shut the power off to the area first and check that it’s off with a voltage detector. Disconnect the main drain line and P-trap, and then disconnect the dishwasher drain line if you have one connected. You can then unscrew your garbage disposal using a disposal wrench. Just make sure you disconnect the electrical lines before removing your appliance.

Once you have your garbage disposal disconnected, you can remove the mounting bracket by unscrewing the bolts that are holding the bracket. You can back them out just enough to pop off the snap ring, which prevents the bottom portion of the bracket from disconnecting from the top when you unscrew the bolts. Use a regular screwdriver to pop off the snap ring, and the rest of the components should fall off by themselves.

As with many appliances, proper maintenance is key to maximizing your garbage disposal’s life span. If everyone in your household is on board with proper care and maintenance, like running water while operating the disposal, you should get plenty of years out of your unit. Avoid putting the wrong food items down the disposal, including pasta, rice, bread, and more.

Regular maintenance, such as not disposing of grease or coffee grounds down the sink and routine use of strainers, can prevent clogs.
