"LeafFilter doesn't clean gutters, they sell and install their LeafFilter Gutter products and only clean the gutters if you buy their product. I can't even begin to afford their product so I wasn't able to get my gutter cleaned by them."

"Very professional, knowledgeable, and did a superior job. i was unsure of who to call for cleaning my siding and gutters. i am so glad I found this company. Tyler called me, came by to give me an estimate, and completed the job all at the times he gave me. He is reliable, knowledgeable, and does an excellent job. He also brought a sample of the cleaning solution he would use to the estimate . i had OLD aluminum siding and he showed me what it would look like when he was done. i decided to repaint the aluminum since the coating and color were all but gone. he prepared the surface of my house so all I have to do now is put the paint on. i would highly recommend this young man for any job he tells me he can do. His attention to detail is spot on and he cleaned up the job site when he was finished. What a great worker."

"I am quite pleased with GutterKing. They contacted me immediately and came out quickly to give me an estimate. Their prices were reasonable and their personnel were knowledgeable. When I agreed to the repairs, they came and did the work in a fairly short amount of time. The work was done in a professional manner and any necessary clean up was performed. I would definitely recommend them to others and I will use them in the future when I need gutter or siding work done."

"Storm Roofing Tom and his crew are awesome. They came out at a moment's notice even though all roofers were furiously backed up because of the storm. They tarp-sealed the open areas because rain and snow were forecast for the next few days. They coordinated with the insurance people on visits so I didn't have to play phone messenger. They replaced the entire side of the roof, matching the existing pattern. Tom was a pleasure to work with during this difficult time. He was super responsive, always answering our calls. Completely knowledgeable and informative about roofing issues, told us about why the damage happened and pointed out deficiencies in the previous roofing job. He met here with the insurance inspector on site, and made several recommendations. Once the insurance paperwork was finalized, Storm Roofing were out immediately and had the entire job done, including several new roofing boards, in one day. I was a little worried about damage to our neighbor's property during the job because we are very close and the ground was quite slushy from the weather, but the guys did a great job prepping the area and cleaning up afterwards. I can't say enough about what a great job Tom and Storm Roofing did, from beginning to end. Even the insurance inspector told me that Tom was one of the most competent and professional roofers he's ever worked with."

Gutter Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Failing to clean your gutters can lead to serious and costly damage. When leaves and other debris cause blockages, water cannot drain properly and will overflow. This can lead to water pooling around your home’s foundation, causing basement flooding and structural damage. The overflow can also damage your roof, siding, and fascia boards, with the constant moisture promoting mold, mildew, and rot. The weight of wet debris can cause gutters to sag or break, while stagnant water creates a breeding ground for pests like mosquitoes and rodents. Additionally, runoff can damage landscaping or freeze on driveways and patios, causing cracks. To prevent these issues, it is recommended to clean your gutters at least once or twice a year.

Frequently, when water flows over gutters, it indicates a potential clog, necessitating cleaning. For instance, if a twig becomes lodged in the downspout, it can lead to a traffic jam, causing more leaves and sticks to accumulate. Another potential issue is an incorrect pitch, as gutters should channel water toward the downspout. If you observe water overflowing the end cap or leaking through it, it suggests that your gutters are improperly tilted.

There’s more to gutter cleaning services than simply scooping out fallen leaves and debris. You should consult your gutter professional about which services they’ll provide during your appointment to ensure you receive the best value for your investment.

Gutter cleaning usually consists of some basic services, including:

  • Removing debris such as leaves, twigs, pests, moss, algae, and pollen

  • Uninstall and reinstall gutter guards

  • Flush the gutter with a hose

  • Inspection for any damage or leaks

  • Recommendations for repairs

Yes, it is generally considered safe to use a leaf blower to clear debris from gutters as long as you are wearing safety goggles and gloves. It's also necessary to have a gutter extension tool. In cases of severe clogs, it's necessary to manually clear debris that cannot be removed by the pressure of the leaf blower. Homeowners should be aware that the incredible power and speed of the output of a leaf blower can blow debris into downspouts. When this happens, water won't be able to flow through the gutters properly. For this reason, many homeowners hire professional gutter cleaners.

If you want to avoid burying your downspouts, several alternatives can help direct water away from your home's foundation. One option is to connect a rain barrel to your downspout. During a storm, the barrel collects water that you can later use for irrigating your lawn or garden. Another common solution is to install an above-ground downspout extension. This can be done in a couple of ways:

  • Splash Guards: Placing a splash guard, available at most hardware stores, under your downspout can act as a simple funnel to direct water away from the house.

  • Downspout Extensions: You can add an extension to the end of the downspout's elbow to carry water further into your yard. Some extensions are flexible, allowing you to maneuver them around landscaping.

These above-ground solutions are particularly useful if your home has a slab foundation that you cannot dig up. However, they have limitations. An extension may not move water as far from your home as an underground system. More importantly, if your yard slopes back toward your house, these methods will be ineffective, and burying your downspouts remains the best option to prevent potential flooding and water damage.
