"Miller construction takes great pride in their work as exhibited by their schedule, very prompt. I had new concrete driveway and sidewalks installed. They listened to special details like the color I wanted mixed in the concrete to accent the driveway in the sunlight. The patio installed I wanted rounded corners and special details done and WOW These guys are incredible. These are special features that only qualified professionals could take on the tasks I will be using Miller construction in the fall for other concrete work to be done. I would recommend Miller Construction to anyone. If asked to endorse miller construction I would be honored. The work the team has done has changed not only the value of my home but the happiness I share with my family."

Customers say: True professional

"Joe was recommended to us by a friend and WOW what a find he was. Our deck and stairs were sagging after the original contractor did not do it properly. We just met with our code person and he commented how well Joe did on reinforced, strengthened, and leveled the sagging deck, side deck and stairs. Going to use him to reinforce our basement. His prices are reasonable, his work is beyond reproach, easy to work with. Joe is the Best of the Best"

Concrete Resurfacing questions, answered by experts

Resurfacing concrete or asphalt driveways involves adding a new top layer to fill in large cracks and potholes. Repaving, however, removes all material from the previous driveway and fills the area in with new materials. Repaving is a chance to change the shape of your driveway and regrade the land.

Concrete resurfacing and concrete overlay are terms often used interchangeably to describe the process of applying a new, thin layer of pre-blended concrete over an existing slab. This process enhances the durability and appearance of the concrete, giving it a fresh look without the high cost of a full replacement. The new layer is typically between 1/4-inch and 1-inch thick, significantly less than the 4 inches required for a new slab, and can be stamped, colored, or textured for a custom finish.

While the terms are often considered the same, their meaning can sometimes vary by contractor. Some may use "overlay" to describe a thicker application that adds structural integrity, while "resurfacing" might refer to a thinner layer intended for cosmetic upgrades. Other common names for this process include concrete restoration, concrete refinishing, and concrete rejuvenation.

Pervious concrete should be between 4 and 8 inches thick to drain water properly. Surfaces like parking lots and driveways should be at least 6 inches thick to accommodate the weight of vehicles, while patios and walkways may be poured between 4 and 6 inches thick. There’s no standard for pervious concrete thickness, but in most cases, the more weight the surface will need to hold, the thicker it should be.

In general, crack fillers last for about two years on average. That timeline can be shorter if you have extremely harsh winters or longer if you live in a mild climate. Luckily, this product is pretty affordable at the hardware store (about $10 to $30) and easy to DIY, so redoing it every few years shouldn’t be too much of a hassle.

You can pour concrete over existing concrete and then stamp it to create an overlay. The old concrete must be prepared correctly for the new concrete to adhere properly and create a strong, stable surface. Stamping the new concrete creates a patterned finish that adds visual interest and an upscale feel.
