"Ryan was promoted, professional and thorough. Our decks are 30 years old, they had been neglected for last few years. Ryan and his dad brought our decks back to look like new. Highly recommend Jayce for your deck restoration project!"

"I found out about Complete Painting and Repair through a coupon promotion on Angie's List.  The price was good ($250 for 8 hours of the painter's work, plus the cost of supplies).  Scott returned my call promptly and was very pleasant and professional.  The coupon covered the cost of power washing the fence and deck, and then painting the fence.  He also offered to paint the deck for an additional $50 and I took him up on that as well, since my back was acting up.
I'm very pleased with the work -- the fence and deck look like new.  The fence is that basic wooden lattice, which can be a real pain to paint (I painted the fence myself a few years ago and was dreading having to do it again).
I'd definitely hire Complete Painting and Repair again.

"Dave and a co-worker came out the day I called.  It was a rainy afternoon and I had a huge hole in the roof of my camp.  They were willing to fix it that night but a family was renting the camp.  So Dave came out early the next day and had it completed by 10 a.m.  The roof problem caused a problem in the bathroom ceiling which he then came out and fixed a few days later.  He was completely professional, prompt and very, very helpful.

"Boone's came out and did a great job. They were communicative about scheduling and timing, materials needed, etc.
The deal purchased did not include railings, which was made clear upon purchase and as soon as they arrived to power wash the deck. My deck was also over the size limit. This cost me $400 on top of the $199 for the deal I purchased.
They powerwashed the deck very very well, and then stained it equally as well. It looks great.

"We have a 30 year old single story ranch style house with attached garage. The roofing crew arrived early, began removing the old roof around 7am. By 10am they were already replacing the few sheets of rotten decking and installing ice and water barrier. The entire roof was finished, all debris was cleared and they were packed up and on their way by 230pm. The staff at Forward was extremely courteous and professional, their material estimate was extremely accurate. I was left with a half a bundle of shingles, which will be perfect in case of a future repair. Owens Corning architectural shingles and other materials came from Curtis Lumber. The roofing materials and roll of dumpster were delivered the day before and the dumpster was gone the day after. Everything happened so fast and efficiently, that there was zero disruption to our household routine. We have had multiple heavy storms since the new roof was installed and have experienced no leaks or loosed shingles. I would highly recommend them for roof repairs and installs."

Deck Maintenance questions, answered by experts

The choice between Trex, a brand of composite decking, and PVC decking depends on your priorities regarding budget, appearance, and environmental impact. Both materials are durable and resistant to moisture and insects. Trex is often considered more eco-friendly because it contains recycled wood and plastic and is 25% recyclable, while PVC is fully synthetic and harder to recycle. Aesthetically, Trex is designed to look more like real wood, whereas PVC often has a glossier, more plastic-like finish. In terms of cost, Trex is typically less expensive than PVC.

No. In most cases, it’s not colder or freezing temperatures that affect decking materials but the amount of moisture that seeps into the materials as a result. For example, wood decking material is more likely to suffer from rot or decay when exposed to excess moisture from snow or ice. An extreme change in temperature can cause wood to expand or contract, but only if it’s not properly treated beforehand.

Yes, you can build a deck over your outdoor HVAC unit, but you need to leave at least 5 feet of vertical clearance above the unit. If you don’t want your deck to be that high off the ground, you could build a floating deck in another part of your yard—again, as long as you leave at least 4 feet of horizontal space between the deck and your AC unit.

Most building codes require that spindles or balusters on deck and stair railings be spaced no more than four inches apart. This safety standard, often called the '4-inch sphere rule,' is designed to prevent small children or pets from slipping through the railing. A good way to visualize this is that a 4-inch sphere should not be able to pass between two spindles. For the same safety reason, the space between the bottom rail and the deck floor should also be no more than four inches. As a general guideline, professionals often install three balusters per foot of railing. However, since specific requirements can vary by location, it is crucial to check your local building codes to ensure compliance before starting your project.

A covered deck can be a good investment that increases your home value—especially if you live in a hot region with a lot of sun. A covering over the deck means you can get more use out of it, even on the hottest summer days. With a permanent deck covering, you can even add ceiling fans to help cool down your deck for added comfort.
