"Window Therapy, and it's principal, Eric Fiert, were totally professional and completed the job on-time and on-budget. He gave me a timely and no-nonsense set of estimates and advice on the installation of mini-blinds in my Son's Forest Hills Apartment, and got it done after a quick phone call and a few concise e-mails. I can recommend him and his company as being trustworthy and highly competent!!"

Small jobs welcome

"Nightshade was the 3rd company I had in to quote new motorized shades in my home. After seeing what they had to offer, it was an easy decision to go with them. They gave me a fair price, with shades that were perfect for what needed. They had many different options and walked me through what would work best in each room. The customer service was top notch. When it was time for installation, they came in and made sure to cover my floors and did a quick, neat job. I would recommend them to anyone looking for window coverings. A+++"

"Hi Matthew, thanks for being patient with me on this project. He got it done, put in a 18.000 BTU Air conditioner and also removed one from the window for me as well. I wasn't expecting him to do it without a lift, but he did the lift himself..Awesome Matthew...It took an hour which I was expecting this job to last longer!!! His fee was great, I had so many other handmen who said they could do the job for 100's of dollars which I thought was to much, my AC sat around for 1 year still in the box until I found Matthew...Thank you again Matthew and stay the pleasant and friendly man you are...Tenant: Linden Plaza..If I need anything else in the near future I will reach out to him before anyone else."

Window Treatments questions, answered by experts

It is legal to put bars on windows in most places, but it depends on the type of bars you choose and the regulations in your area. For example, there are building codes in Mississippi, California, and Texas that forbid the use of permanently closed burglar bars on windows due to concerns about people getting trapped inside during fires.

Storm windows have about the same life span as standard windows—between 20 and 30 years. Vinyl and wood storm windows last longer than aluminum, but they all fall within that life span range. Of course, how long your storm windows last will depend on how much severe weather they see. Direct impacts, in particular, can quickly reduce how long your storm windows last.

ENERGY STAR®-certified windows are the most energy-efficient windows on the market. This certification means that the window meets strict efficiency guidelines set forth by the Environmental Protection Agency. While they might cost more upfront, they can save you money on your energy bills in the long run. ENERGY STAR®-certified windows lower household energy bills by an average of 12% annually.

There are several ways to reduce noise coming through your windows. You can seal gaps around the window frames with acoustic caulk or fresh weatherstripping to reduce noise and air leaks. Installing sound-dampening curtains, thick blinds, or shades can also help deaden sound vibrations. For an additional interior barrier, consider installing an acrylic or plexiglass sheet inside the window, which stifles sound while still allowing for outdoor views. Another strategy is to add external barriers, like dense shrubbery or a sturdy fence, to block neighborhood noises. If these methods are not effective enough, it might be time to install new noise-canceling windows.

When your double-hung window upper sash keeps falling down, it means you could be letting out warm air in the winter or cool air from the AC in the summer. That means your HVAC system works harder to warm or cool the house, costing you extra on electric bills.

If the lower sash continues to fall down, it means when you’ve popped open the window for fresh air, it could slam shut. In addition to being inconvenient, this could be dangerous if you have small kids, children, or pets that like to hang out by the window.
