"From the beginning day 1 to the completion (today) this was an Excellent experience. Xavier has been an amazing person to work with, kept the communication flowing and was always there and on time when he said. His crew was also amazing top notch at what they do. I would recommend Sur Fence Carpentry and Paint LLC to anyone who needs this service and would gladly personally recommend if you need me to. The work was for a long boarder fence installation and removal of the old fence. My property was left looking like a Billion Dollars by the time they left!!!!"

"Very responsive and came fast. Made me feel comfortable when they have a price quote. The most reasonable price quote that I got out of 4-5 other quotes. They did an excellent job installing the fence. They made all the right decisions when trouble shooting how to place the fence. The entire staff was polite and finished the job quickly. Would highly recommend them."

Fencing questions, answered by experts

Knowing how close to the property line you can build a fence is an important planning step in your fence installation project. In many U.S. states, you are allowed to build a fence directly on the property line as long as your neighbor signs off on the plan. But check with your state government because some states and municipalities require a couple of inches before your property line.

There are two things you can do to make a fence replacement easier—but keep in mind that easier doesn’t mean better. First, you can use a jack or some other type of machinery to pull the post out of the ground. If that’s not available, a digging bar can help.

Second, you can backfill the hole with gravel rather than creating a concrete footing. Keep in mind, gravel is less secure. You should only use it if you’re installing a lightweight fence or have heavier, clay soil.

A well-maintained pipe fence can last anywhere from 20 to 50 years, depending on factors like material, climate, and maintenance. Galvanized or coated pipes resist rust and corrosion better than other alternatives, so they tend to last longer, especially in humid or wet environments. Routine maintenance, such as inspecting for damage, removing rust, and applying protective coatings, helps extend the fence’s lifespan significantly.

Split rail fencing is a type of post and rail fencing. Other post and rail fences include corral board and post and dowel. Post and rail fencing is the term used for any type of fence with vertical posts, horizontal rails, and nothing else (specifically excluding pickets). So, technically, a split rail fence is a post and rail fence.

DIY is feasible with the proper tools and manual labor, though experienced installers ensure durability and precise alignment.
