48 years of experience

I have doing business since 1977, ny parents were furniture builders refinishers so I was brought up with woodworking and it is my passion. My main area of interest has always been antiques, restoration , refinishing , rebuilding and copying. I can build any thing that you can dream up or I will help with design. The usual job for refinishing takes about 3 weeks and pick up is available. I am the only one that will work on your item, I strip by hand and spray on a spar-urithane 4 coat finish that can be anywhere from a brite gloss to a matt finish. I am always open for a creative new job so let my 33 years of experience work for you.

Furniture Refinishing questions, answered by experts

You can certainly seal butcher block countertops, but not permanently. Due to the nature of the materials, it will require resurfacing down the line. This is true no matter what you use to seal the countertop, including polyurethane and mineral oil. Polyurethane will last until the countertop is damaged in some way, and mineral oil should be reapplied every two to three months. To maximize the longevity of the polyurethane sealer, apply two coats.

Yes, you can tackle small rooms yourself if you're handy and have a flat, clean subfloor to work with. But seams must be sealed properly, or the barrier will fail. Any gaps will let moisture sneak through and defeat the purpose of installing this more expensive type of carpet padding. For larger rooms or areas, professional installation is usually worth the extra cost.

If your wood stain is still rubbing off after the recommended drying time, it means the pigments didn’t soak into the wood properly and remain on the surface. There are a few possible causes, including applying the stain in hot temperatures, applying too much stain, or failing to wipe off excess before it dries completely.

Yes, you can fill rotten wood with expanding foam. You may prefer using an expanding foam treatment instead of wood filler since the latter can take a long time to dry. It may also provide an easier solution when you’re dealing with smaller gaps. If you use expanding foam, allow it to cure for about 24 hours before you sand and prime it.

If the scratch is large enough that it compromises the integrity of the wood, a wood filler probably won’t be enough to fix the problem. In that case, you might need to sand and refinish the entire floor or replace a board. If you do use a filler, use one that’s appropriate for the scratch. Water-based wood fillers work for small gaps or gouges, while epoxy has added strength to fill larger scratches and gaps.
