"Brothers Aluminum did a great job installing new, high quality, vinyl siding (Alside), gutters, and a brand new roof (25 year warranty). All of my neighbors were very complimentary of the work and the quality job Brothers did. I dealt with directly with Tim, the President of the company, who answered all of my numerous questions within minutes. He also granted all of my little requests (and there were a bunch) without hesitation. More importantly, Brothers price was very reasonable and they completed the entire job in one week! So if you're looking for a dependable, high quality roof/siding guy, that gives you a really good price, then Brothers Aluminum is definitely the place to go!"

"We hired South Shore Installations to remove our existing vinyl siding and do a full siding replacement job. We knew immediately that the company owner Joe was not a salesman and was someone we could trust. He helped us find the specific color we wanted and ordered all the materials. His team communicated what days and times they would be coming by and always showed up on time. At the end of each day, they were very thorough cleaning up the job. Joe showed up almost every day and called to give us updates and make sure we were happy every step of the way, and the turnout is better than we could have hoped for. We have gotten so many compliments already from our neighbors. South Shore Installations will be the company we work with for any future projects."

"Premium Roofing and Siding was fantastic. I received a call immediately and the job was completed the next day! Very professional and charged a very fair price. They went above and beyond and repaired a few additional minor issues I was having with my siding. I would highly recommend and will definitely use for other roofing/siding/gutter jobs in the future."

Siding questions, answered by experts

Yes, clapboard siding generally costs more compared to vinyl. The average cost for vinyl siding is between $2 and $7 per square foot. Meanwhile, clapboard siding costs $4 to $20 per square foot.

The cost of wood siding varies by the type of wood. Engineered wood siding tends to be in the middle of typical costs ($3 to $7 per square foot for materials). Hardwoods, for instance, can cost $5 to $20 per square foot for materials alone, but cedar wood can be as cheap as $3 per square foot.

Pressure washing shou sugi ban siding is generally not a good idea. The charring process used in creating shou sugi ban siding involves burning the wood's surface to achieve its unique appearance and enhanced durability. The charred surface is delicate, and pressure washing can easily damage it. Instead of pressure washing, you can clean it with a soft brush or broom to remove loose debris, followed by a mixture of mild soap and water applied with a soft cloth or sponge.

The telltale signs that your home is ready for repointing include visibly damaged bricks, crumbling bricks, flaking bricks, loose mortar, cracked mortar, gaps between brick and mortar, leaking inside your home, and visible water damage. Consider repointing when going over brick house pros and cons if you're buying a new home. Repointing is also a good idea if you plan to paint, acid wash, or stain your brick home, as it will give you a good base for coloration and prevent repairs after the work is done.

If you buy new cedar, the process of cutting it usually roughs up the surface enough that it doesn’t require sanding. However, if you buy older cedar or you’re repurposing it from another application, it’s a good idea to sand it. This helps the stain settle into the grain, and results in a more uniform appearance.
