"I hired Walter of Power Painters to paint my entire 1 bedroom apartment he said it would take 2 days. He came 4/23 & 4/24. First day as they were painting. They started with the front entrance hallway and livingroom. I came out of the bedroom to look and I said to him the walls look shiny why. He said it was eggshell. I said my walls were painted with Benjamin Moore Decorators white as you see before flat matte. I wanted it like that. And he said you told me eggshell it has a glossy finish. I remember in your texts that's what you want. And I said no. I would never choose glossy. He said most ppl choose that. If you have any marks or imperfections you will notice it. So why would I choose that my walls have marks its old built in 1984. I said let me look at all my texts I sent you. Walter then said if you would have said it earlier to me. I could do something. From there I was so unhappy already. Just started 1st coat eggshellI was unhappy. After he went home. I checked all my texts and nowhere did I say eggshell finish. I wanted Benjamin Moore Decorators whitein matte finish like what I had on the walls. Then the following day I told Walter I checked my texts I did not say I wanted the eggshell finish. Right then I should have said I want decorators white in matte finish. Please do it over. I didn't pay him yet. So I just ignored it even though I was not happy. Then I said to Walter you don't sand down the walls much or use a machine why. The other time I painted they did. This was the second and last day. I showed him some of the marks on the wall and he said I cannot get rid of so of the marks. That would be a bigger job. So when they finished he said to me. I will come back and sand with a machine the walls in the hallway..So he said can he can come back and use a machine to sand down the hallway that's about 7-8 ft long and maybe the livingroom. At that time he knew I was upset. So I paid him $1000, and gave him, $ 600 deposit so I owe him$800. Walter came with his employee May 2nd to finish. I paid him the $800 balance. As they left. I noticed he had this tool stuck or he put it on the side of the front door so it would not close. I TOOK IT OUT THEN TRIED TO SHUT MY FRONT DOOR and I could not close it. I pulled the door hard and the door scraped the wall and ripped the top edge of the door. I texted Walter the pictures of what happened to my wall and front door. He said let the door slam I will come and fix it. This was May 2nd. I did not hear back from him so I called May 13 and he will come by next week. He never did. Then June 6 he texted me and said he is at a job the whole day and will try to come and see me next week. He never called or texted and today is June 25 and I called Angi Customer Resolutions. Vvgʻ"

We've been specializing in painting for over 14 years. We offer both interior and exterior painting services.

"I have to be honest, Manny and his nephews were very professional and fast. He met me within 2 hours after I contacted Angi. Within 3 days he was at my house painting both the interior and exterior; he also did the powerwashing along with painting the fence. Manny and his nephews were very fast and neat. He said the job would take 2 days and it did. The price was fair for the amount of work that needed to be done. At first, I was hesitant, but I am glad he hung in there with me, and I am very satisfied!!!! Thank you Angi and Manny!!!!"

They even came back to do touch-ups at the end of construction, which was a level of service I sincerely appreciated. I couldn't be more pleased with the final result!"

"George and his helper were very professional, courteous and helpful. They did everything I asked of them and more. I'm so glad I hired them because compared to myself doing the job it was like night and day. The speed and quality of their work is amazing. It would've taken me weeks to do it. They completed the power washing, scraping, repairing and two coats of painting in four days. Professional, friendly and meticulous are the words I associate with George and his helper. They cleaned up every day and when they left, it was immaculate. The best contractor I've ever hired by far. The price was great, the quality of their work was great and everything went as smoothly as possible. I would give George 5 plus rating."

"My first complaint is that nobody called me the day before the job to tell me what time they would be there or even confirm they would be there. I have had lots of no-shows in the ten years I've lived here, and usually when someone doesn't call that means they're not coming. When Paul and his painter showed up at a reasonable hour of the morning, I found out that not only was this painter a subordinate of the painter who was supposed to be doing this job who didn't end up coming, but they were supposed to bring quick-drying spackle with them, a material which was included in the agreed price. They brought no spackle at all with them, and ended up using some spackle I had in my garage. The guy did a decent job of basic spackling and sanding, but he did mysteriously leave a few screw and nail holes that even an amateur could have patched up. Then Paul had the nerve to tell me that the trim (the door frames, window sills, etc.) were not supposed to be in the price, because everything was just supposed to be painted all one color. Seriously? I don't recall ever being in someone's kitchen where the trim was painted the same color as the walls (unless maybe everything was painted white, which was not the case in my kitchen - the walls were painted peach). It also really bothered me that Paul refused to have the painter use painter's tape of any kind (I even bought it for them to use). I have never seen a professional painter who didn't at least tape the floor and ceiling. Paul swore to me that any bleed through on the ceiling was "already there", despite the fact that my kitchen had never ever been painted peach or anything close to peach before. The contract does not say anything about having to pay the full amount of the job up front, yet before even one drop of paint was applied to the walls, Paul dropped back over and demanded payment in full right then and there, and then left the painter there to finish the job. When the painter was finished, I asked him if he brought a vacuum with him to clean up the spackle dust and wipe up the excess paint and he said no, so I don't think he was even going to do any cleanup. I had to let him use my shop-vac. After he left was when I noticed the nail and screw holes that were not spackled, and a few areas where the paint did not cover the wall, even after two coats. I am giving this company a B because they charged me a reasonable price, finished the job in one day as promised, and at least on the surface the work they did makes the kitchen look much better than it had. However, I do not think I would hire this company again in the future. I think they just have to adjust a few of their operations and they will probably meet the needs of most customers looking for painting services."

FAQs for exterior painting projects in Franklin Square, NY

You should paint your home exterior every five to 10 years, on average. Climate and surroundings can affect how well paint holds up. Wood siding will likely need a fresh coat of paint every three to seven years. Paint on brick tends to last about eight to 17 years, on average.

Calculate the square footage of the area you want to paint. Divide the square footage by 350 (the average square footage a gallon of paint covers). Multiply the number of gallons you need by two, as you’ll likely be applying two coats of paint. For a more accurate estimate, subtract the square footage of the windows and doors from the initial square footage total. It’s a good idea to plan for an extra gallon of paint to make sure you have enough to finish the job.

To calculate the square footage of a home exterior, painters multiply the length of the wall by the height of the wall to be painted. Then they add the total square footage for all of the walls to be painted. To calculate the price, they multiply the total square footage by their cost per square foot to prep and paint. Additional costs may factor in such as repairs, additional trim, and walls higher than the first story.

The cost to paint the exterior of a house ranges from $1,900 to $4,500 or about $1.50 to $4 per square foot, depending on the size, height, and complexity of the home layout. Other cost factors include your location, the type of siding (e.g., wood, aluminum, brick, stucco, etc.), and the kind of paint (e.g. oil-based, latex, acrylic, etc.). Painting the trim a different color or painting intricately designed trim can also increase the cost.

You should apply at least two coats of paint when painting the exterior of your house. Two coats of paint provides better durability and more even coverage than just one coat.
