How often you need to pump your tank depends on the size of your tank and how many people live in your home. The average recommended frequency is every three to five years. When testing the pressure of your well tank, the psi should be two below the cut-on pressure. For example, if your tank is set to 40/60, then your pressure should be at 38 psi.

The well pump starts when the tank reaches the minimum cut-in pressure. It turns off when the tank reaches the maximum cut-out pressure.
