"Great work, very professional, friendly, and overall a pleasant gentleman to work with. Hired him to drywall two full bedrooms. Unintentional made him have to some framing due to work I did (sorry about that). He took it in stride.. Wish I could do half stars, I would give him 4.5 stars out of 5. The reason being, there was a drywall that wasnt installed in an out of sight part of one closet. I will easily install myself, but for transparency I thought I mention it. Would 100% hire him again if I have the chance."

"Andrew Wells has been a gift from God for my dire situation. I have an extremely old house which needs extensive repairs, and through Home Advisor's recommendation I hired Andrew Wells to repair numerous holes in the soffit to prevent bats and squirrels from entering my attic. So far, he has done an incredible job! I am so impressed by his honesty and devotion and reasonable prices that I intend to hire him for future repairs/work. He truly is a blessing to the field of contracting and I am most grateful that I found him through Home Advisor. Thank you!!!"

"Josh and Dave did an excellent job, and the finished product results represent years of knowledge and skills in the drywall business. I had extensive water damage in my home and wanted a contractor that could offer quality work at a competitive price. JTD Builders exceeded my expectations on both accounts and their expertise was evident with the drywall hanging, prefills, taping, mudding, and sanding to ready the drywall for painting. They were very responsive to my requests and now I'm finally on my way to getting my home back to normal. I highly recommend JTD Builders."

"Ed answered his phone; discussed the project; came when he said he was coming and persevered through a frustrating set of circumstances. His price was very fair and he was clear in telling us that if we had a problem to call and he would come back to fix it. His exact words were, â I stand behind my work.â Weâ re holding on to his number and expect to call him for other projects as they come up."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

While certain types of textured walls can seem dated (looking at you, popcorn), textured walls are a common sight in both older and more modern homes. The main reason textured walls may be here to stay is that they are an excellent way to hide minor imperfections on a wall and give it a finished appearance. Some homeowners think a coat of paint on drywall is a bit industrial-looking. However, that look works perfectly in modern home design

Drywall tape is made of paper, while drywall mesh is made of fiberglass or metal. Drywall mesh patches are suitable for repairing small holes in drywall, while paper drywall tape holds a crease better for corners. You need joint compound to adhere drywall tape to the wall, while mesh patches may be self-adhesive.

If the holes in the plaster are small, you can fill them with layers of patching plaster until they’re filled. After it dries, you can sand the plaster and paint over it. If the hole is much larger, consider using bonding plaster first and then a layer of patching plaster, completing the process with sanding and a layer of paint.

A post-drywall inspection could uncover many problems that weren’t present during the pre-drywall inspection, including insufficient insulation, missing weather stripping, improperly installed plumbing and lighting fixtures, flooring damage, drywall damage, plumbing leaks, aesthetic issues, and more. Structural problems, which are often expensive to fix and are common reasons to walk away after a home inspection, are easier to see before the drywall goes up, but a post-drywall inspection may highlight minor issues with house settling and foundation problems.
