"Pete was very knowledgeable and quickly identified the source of my concern. I knew something was in the chimney because my dog was continually going over to the fireplace smelling and barking. I was hearing scratching noises. Pete worked to restrict access to the chimney, dealt with a possible gas problem, cleaned the chimney and installed a stainless steel sleeve believing all was clear and problem solved. During the final task of cleaning the fireplace we all were unprepared for the what jumped out at us. What to our wondering eyes should appear (not Santa) but a BIG squirrel that ran helter-skelter through 2 rooms, jumping on furniture, going under it, frantically looking for a way out. Luckily, he avoided the dog and went into a room with French doors that my son quickly opened and fled into freedom. WOW, OMG, YOU'VE GOT TO BE KIDDING ME, WHO WUDDA THOUGHT!!!! Great afternoon, lots of laughs and excellent service!"

"We bought our house almost a year ago, but have never run the fireplace in the family room or master bedroom. Since the sellers were pigs and didn't take care of the house very well, I didn't even know if they worked or not. A friend recommended 5 Star after they did her place as part of the homeowner's association. I called the office and told them I wasn't sure whether the chimney even needs cleaning (as a neighbor said they don't need it) and she said that it's a $50 service charge call, and if it needed cleaning, it would be $109, and no service charge. 

I was very impressed with today's service! The office called to tell me that Kevin was running ahead of schedule, and would it be okay to come by now? Since I was home, sure!

Took off his shoes at the door, and was very thorough in explaining the workings of the fireplace, since I really had no clue. He explained how much of the family room fireplace was still in great condition (great! not trying to pad the bill!). But that our gas fireplace needed a $55 kit in order for it to work properly (something about silica sand or something like that). He also explained how many are switching out their gas fireplaces for wood (I thought, here it comes!) and explained that since having wood in the fireplace is a combustible material, it would give off more heat than just the gas logs. (Meaning, we could feel the heat from the couch, not just right in front of it.). That was a $55 charge to switch out the gas line, which I thought was reasonable. So we switched it to wood, and he cleaned it all out, and it looks like new! So $109 plus the $55 to switch it to a wood burning fireplace. 

Clearly the previous owners did not use the fireplaces (he found almost a dozen small plastic toys behind the gas logs in the one downstairs - crazy!) but now when the temps dip down again, we are all set with a working fireplace at least in the family room. 

And Kevin spent the time to explain how to work the fireplace downstairs, and recommended where to get good firewood.
