"Mack Rubio does fantastic woodwork. He and Juri responded within minutes of my request for new porch stairs and railings, as well as replacement of rotted fascia and siding. His work is solid, fast, and precise. Excellent skill and craftsmanship. His estimates are affordable and his team are always punctual and professional. This is my first home purchase and it is a fixer-upper, so I will definitely be calling Mack again for assistance with all of our home improvement projects. I highly recommend Handy Mack for all home repairs and renovations!"

"Words cannot describe how well these guys did and everything they worked with us on. We had several small jobs and deck work. They painted our high vaulted walls and ceilings. They fixed our shower plumbing and added an acces panel for the shower. They installed a new ceiling fan. They re-faced our rotted deck and replaced several joists. Replaced both sets of stairs and set them in concrete. Amazing woodworking, professionalism, punctual, truly good people that you can actually trust. All work was done in a very timely fashion. We will definitely hire again for various projects around the house."

Hey! I’m a NYC handyman, furniture maker, designer, and CNC woodworker — basically, if it needs to be built, installed, modified, repaired, or figured out, I’m probably your guy.\n\nI specialize in furniture assembly, custom furniture, cabinetry, Murphy beds, shelving, closets, molding and trim, mounting, light carpentry, appliances, and those weird “this doesn’t fit, but somehow we need to make it work” projects.\n\nI have my own woodworking/CNC shop, a serious collection of professional tools, and experience designing and building furniture from scratch. So I don’t just follow instructions — I understand how things are actually constructed and how to install them safely and cleanly.\n\nI’m big on precision, good-looking results, and finding smart solutions when NYC apartments throw us the usual surprises: crooked walls, mystery materials, tiny spaces, and 100-year-old construction. Friendly, easy to work with, fully equipped, and I treat your place like I’d treat my own.

Window Shutter Repair questions, answered by experts

The average shutter is designed to last 20 to 25 years. Proper maintenance for the type of shutters you have is essential for helping them reach their full potential.

Shutters are still very common in Southern, farmhouse, and traditional-style homes, especially those in warm climates who can benefit from the increased efficiency. While modern homes and designs tend to shy away from shutters, shutters are a timeless design style that will likely be around for decades to come.

Not all windows are suitable for shutters, as certain styles can prevent them from functioning correctly. It's best to avoid installing shutters on bay windows, picture windows, dormer windows, and double-mulled windows. Shutters are better suited for large, full-size standard windows or French doors.

Additionally, consider the room's lighting needs. Since shutters effectively block light, they are an excellent choice for rooms where you want more darkness and privacy, such as a master bedroom or a main living room. For window types that are not ideal for functional shutters, some homeowners choose to install fixed (non-functional) shutters to maintain a consistent look across the home.

The most popular estate shutter brands include Hunter Douglas, Budget Blinds®, and Graber®. Hunter Douglas shutters cost $20 to $26 per square foot and include high-quality hardwood and faux wood options. Budget Blinds shutters cost $20 to $24 per square foot, depending on if you choose natural wood or another material. Depending on the material, Graber shutters range from $18 to $24 per square foot.

Plantation shutters cost an average of $2,990, making them one of the pricier shutter options. However, they offer a 75% return on your investment and are great options for boosting curb appeal and property value. Most people go for plantation shutters for their timeless, vintage look. They also provide the strongest light blocking and temperature control for your home.
