"Rich was great and very professional. The blueprints were promptly delivered and he did a great job working with the town regarding some requested changes. If I need an architect in the future, it will be Rich. In fact, we did recommend him to our son regarding his building project, and he is just as pleased. Rich is based in Syracuse and we are in Rochester. He came to our home, so don t let a little distance concern you."

"The Hometown crew was top notch - respectful, professional and thorough. The site lead would touch base making sure it was to our satisfaction throughout project. We had a tree removed , stump removed and surrounding area graded and prepped . The area looks perfect and would definitely contract Hometown again for another project. Thank you again!!"

Architects questions, answered by experts

You have three options in terms of professionals who can draw up blueprints: a draftsperson, an architect, or a structural engineer. A draftsperson can sometimes draw up plans for new construction, but they more often work from approved plans for alterations or to provide 3D drawings. Architects are usually the best option for standard residential construction projects. Structural engineers might be necessary for custom home builds or for alterations that could affect your home’s structural integrity. Draftsmen cost the least of the three, followed by architects and then structural engineers.

Whether you’re building a new home or building an extension on your existing property, you will likely need both a structural engineer and an architect. A structural engineer will determine what loads your foundation and framing can safely handle, and an architect will draw plans according to those structural calculations to simplify the building process. You can start by contacting a structural engineer near you, as many work alongside architects and can get all of the prep work done at once.

Arched windows used to be most prevalent in more traditional home styles, like Spanish colonial and Gothic, but they are becoming increasingly popular in modern design. You’ll often find arched windows in new home builds across many styles, including farmhouse and contemporary architecture. This represents a more general trend toward more unique houses with interesting features.

While many different factors determine whether a house is classified as a villa, many villas are detached homes with a European design influence, often with an emphasis on luxury and comfort. Modern villas often feature outdoor spaces such as terraces, gardens, or patios.

You likely need to hire an architect for your new house design and build, unless you have the design skills and experience with building regulations and standards needed to get your plans approved. If you are able to meet the design requirements, you can hire a draftsperson to create the blueprints for the builders to follow.
