"Mike's Do it All did a wonderful job with my drywall project. I suspect that they undercharged for what ended up being a significantly more difficult job than they had originally figured. Most contractors would have found a way to charge more than the original quote in a situation like this...Mike did not, he honored the original quote and I could not be more happy that he did. Mike has a worker that is highly skilled and did a great job on my project. He went above and beyond the minimum to make my wife's new hair salon a beautiful setting. They showed up every day, worked even on the hottest days of summer and cleaned up as they worked too. Thanks so much Mike and worker (sorry I never did catch your name) your work is appreciated and quite nice. Brian-"

Countertops and Backsplashes questions, answered by experts

Marble countertops cost $3,000 on average, ranging from about $2,000 to $5,000, depending on the type of marble, square footage, location, and whether you use tiles or slabs. Another major cost factor to consider is the grading of the marble, which determines its quality level.

Use this grading system when selecting marble for countertops:

  • Grade A: Nearly perfect with subtle veining

  • Grade B: Minor flaws such as pits, fissures, or blotches

  • Grade C: Minor and major flaws like chipping and cracks requiring repair

  • Grade D: Significant damage needing repair, with dark veining and pronounced colors

Yes, you can install a farmhouse sink on an existing countertop—but there are some caveats. You’ll need to precisely measure. It’s best to choose a sink that’s the same dimensions as your existing sink, since your contractor won’t have to cut the countertop. Otherwise, pay close attention to the depth of your counter (the front to back measurement). You don’t want to install something that’s so big it sticks out beyond your countertop and cabinetry.

Installing new kitchen countertops costs $1,850 to $4,450, with an average price of $3,140. Some materials, like marble and granite, are more expensive than others. Additionally, the size of the countertop impacts the overall price. Labor accounts for 10% to 20% of the overall project cost. Add-ons, like edging and corner treatments, also increase the cost.

No, you should not put hot pots or pans directly on epoxy countertops, as this can cause permanent damage. While epoxy is heat-resistant, it is not fully heatproof. Epoxy countertops can typically withstand temperatures ranging from 135°F to 300°F, but cookware directly from a stove or oven can reach much higher temperatures (300°F to 500°F). Placing an extremely hot item on the surface can cause it to melt, soften, or discolor. To protect the integrity and appearance of your countertops, always use a trivet, hot pad, pot holder, or other heat-resistant barrier before setting down hot cookware.

You can put hot pans on porcelain countertops. Porcelain is highly resistant to heat—it’s manufactured at around 2,500 degrees Fahrenheit, so it can withstand a ton of heat without cracking or damaging. Even though the high heat is a plus, you should still be cautious when putting hot surfaces on porcelain countertops.
