I told Mike politely that I did not feel comfortable with his young son doing the work, and he immediately took offense, saying that he had been sealing driveways since he was ?8 years old? and saw no harm in it?then told me he would never have started my job & would never work for me again. Very rude and nasty, considering my only concern was for his young child. He said he used ?environmentally friendly? materials, but I very much doubt breathing in those fumes all day is harmless. It?s his child of course, but I hoped he would think about what he was exposing him to. I allowed him to finish the job, but I wouldn?t want to hire him again because I?d much rather my money went to someone who cares more about their child?s health than making money."

Yes, it’s possible to seal your driveway too much. Whether you have an asphalt or concrete driveway, sealing it every year opens your driveway to potential damage. You don't technically need to seal your driveway after pressure washing, but doing so will help keep your driveway clean for longer. The best driveway sealer depends on the type of driveway you have. To seal asphalt, consider an asphalt emulsion sealer, fast-drying sealer, or latex acrylic sealer. Concrete driveways commonly use acrylic sealers or penetrating sealers.

Unlike drying, which takes between 48 and 72 hours on average, asphalt driveway cure times are different and take much longer. Your asphalt driveway won’t actually cure for around six months to one year. During this time, it’s more likely to get damaged or weakened by heavy machinery, vehicles, and high temperatures. 

If your asphalt driveway shows cracks, potholes, or standing water, it’s likely time for a repair. Cracks, big or small, let water seep in, weakening the base and causing further damage. Potholes are a sign of this weakening process in action while standing water suggests your driveway has poor drainage, which can cause even more issues. You may also see warping or buckling—a sign of a compromised base layer—or sinking pavement. Spotting these signs early on can help you save yourself a bigger repair bill in the future.
