"The sales call was late October, 2022. Problem #1 was the "take it now or lose the price" sales pitch. I should have walked him to the door. Two weeks later I was told 2 windows were "not possible" to make as promised. A change order was done with a more invasive installation. The 8-12 week delivery promise meant new windows by mid-February. I heard nothing from their office for months. 12 weeks became 3 months, 4 months, 6 months and NO windows, no communication. My sales rep turned this over to a service rep and didn't tell me. Calls and emails went unanswered for days and weeks. In April, I posted on their facebook page, receiving a response installation had been scheduled, even tho I had not been called! Early May 2023: Installation day comes and 4 of the first 6 windows off the trailer were made wrong. It includes one of the 'not possible" windows built as originally promised. There were 10 days of unpleasant phone calls to hash this out, with a reminder that I had signed a contract and owed them payment. They also signed a contract and didn't deliver as promised. Late May 2023: After a discount offer, I allow them to install what they have and reorder the remainder, with a 4-6 week stated delivery. 6 weeks later, they say they have 2 of my 3 windows, yet I'm owed 4! Late September 2023: Four more month yields three good windows and one still incorrect. This crew fixed 3 of the prior window installations, which were very poor. Several exteriors had caulk that pulled away. One interior window had a tape wad filling a gap behind caulk and trim. November 2023: The final window arrives and is installled, 53 WEEKS after the original sales call. Bottom line: Universal used high pressure sales tactics, is really bad at keeping promises, bad at communicating with the customer and bad at talking within the company."

There’s no exact formula to calculate the cost of your mirror, but a few guidelines will help you estimate the price tag you can expect. The bigger the mirror, the higher the cost—and the same goes for thickness. Customizations will largely depend on the labor required, so think about how long your design will take and multiply that by your contractor’s hourly rate.

Generally, large bathroom mirrors that have been secured to the wall with glue require a multistep removal process. By taping the mirror with masking tape or duct tape, you can potentially prevent dangerous shards from falling as you loosen the mirror. A heat gun or other heat source may be needed to loosen up the glue before it can be freed using a wire saw. With glued-down mirrors being the most dangerous to remove, it's wise to hire a professional instead of handling glass on your own.

There is no blanket number when it comes to glass thickness for soundproofing. Thicker glass does help reduce noise, but it’s only part of the solution. Most single-pane windows use glass that’s ⅛” to ¼” thick. While increasing the thickness can cut down on sound, the real noise-blocking power comes from stacking layers. Double—and triple-pane windows are far more effective for soundproofing. The combination of mass and separation breaks up sound waves better than thick glass could on its own.

While wavy glass is sometimes called antique glass or restoration glass due to the fact that it's found exclusively in older homes, the proper names for wavy glass are actually crown glass and cylinder glass. Most commonly used for circular or portal windows, crown glass was created by manufacturers using a process of blowing and spinning. Meanwhile, cylinder glass was used more commonly because it created large square sheets that could be shaped to fit windows of all shapes and sizes.  

While finding your mirror cracked can be spooky, there are actually many logical and common reasons why this happens. First, the mirror may have been mounted unevenly in the first place. Over time, poor mounting leads to stress points that will eventually cause a mirror to crack. Other common causes of a mirror spontaneously cracking include dramatic temperature shifts, strong thunder or a loud crash somewhere in the distance, exposure to heat and sunlight, and an uneven wall in your home. It's also possible that your mirror had a manufacturing defect or microscopic cracks that occurred during glass cutting or handling that eventually caused it to shatter.
