"My elderly parents had foundation drainage issues in Las Cruces. I no longer live in NM and found Mike through Home Advisor. I contacted him & explaining the problem. Mike was extremely knowledgeable, professional & courteous. He provided ideas to solve the issues and I felt I could trust him to meet my parents. My parents found him to be punctual, courteous & very trustworthy, a pleasure to work with. Mike also recommended other trustworthy professionals to meet their other needs. Mike exceeded our expectations & my parents were very happy & we would recommend Mike to anyone."

"AHS is ok. They cover repairs of most everything under the roof of your house. The companies that contract with them are not always the best. You call AHS with the issue, they send a fax to the repair company and give you the contact info. If they don't contact you within 24 hours, you call them. Sometimes they answer, sometimes they don't. When they arrive (usually three days or so later), they service the item. if it has issues within the 90 days, you call AHS again, they are sent out with no charge. If the serviceman decides the unit is unrepairable, AHS will allow you to choose a replacement from their listing (usually not as good as what you have) they will install and remove your old item, or give you wholesale amount to buy and install your own. Prices vary on what you want covered and what you want the copay to be, plus where you live. For me it is 49.99 per month with a 75.00 time of service order. You can have more than one item serviced at the same time under the same fee. If you have a SEAR product the repair guys are great. Not that wild about the other ones they send out. But it is a big savings compared to calling someone on your own. The cost of service is only the 75.00 copay."

Mold Testing and Remediation questions, answered by experts

If you need mold remediation, you’re probably looking at a bill of a couple thousand dollars or more. Sometimes, though, your homeowner’s insurance policy may cover some or all of the costs of the remediation. If the black mold forms because of a covered event, such as a storm that damages your roof, and causes leaking or flooding in the basement, it’s possible the policy also covers mold remediation. It never hurts to ask your insurance company if it will cover the cost of black mold remediation.

The gasket and drum of a washing machine are ideal spots for mold to grow. They are dark, warm, and humid, conditions that mold thrives in. The products you use to wash your clothing, such as fabric softener and detergent, can also encourage growth by giving the mold a food source.

The primary difference is that black mold (Stachybotrys chartarum) is considered toxic and more dangerous than regular mold. It can produce harmful chemicals called mycotoxins, which may lead to severe health issues like respiratory problems, skin irritation, headaches, and other long-term complications. While regular mold is rarely toxic, it can still cause allergic reactions and respiratory irritation. Visually, black mold often appears dark—green, gray, brown, or black—with a fuzzy texture, whereas regular mold can be almost any color. Black mold is less common and typically grows in areas with severe water damage. Regardless of the type, you should not ignore any mold infestation in your home.

It is safe to remove old linoleum, but it may require the help of a specialist due to the risk of asbestos in the material. Before you cut into linoleum or try to peel it up, have it tested for asbestos. If it tests positive, professionals will need to remove it to prevent the risk of health issues from airborne toxic particles. If it’s asbestos-free, DIY removal is possible and safe.

Black mold and wood rot are both types of fungi that thrive in damp areas, but they are distinct issues with different consequences. Wood rot specifically refers to the decay of wood caused by fungi, which compromises the wood's structural integrity. Black mold, on the other hand, is a fungus that grows on the surface of materials, including both rotting and non-rotting wood. The primary difference is their impact: wood rot affects the wood's structure, while toxic black mold is a health hazard. Inhaling black mold spores can cause severe respiratory issues, whereas wood rot spores are generally not harmful to people. Because mold can grow on rotting wood, the two issues can be interconnected, but they are not the same.
