"While we needed the driveway paved, we decided to only lay the base course and wait until the winter passed. M&M kept us informed about their arrival date. Once on site, they got the base course down. They did have mechanical problems with a piece of equipment, however the team stuck with the job, fixed the equipment. Impressive."

"We chose EarthWise to correct 45+ years of erosion re-grade widen a 100 -long S-shaped gravel driveway at our home. Included was design, excavation construction of a new 5 high dry-stack retaining wall. The whole EarthWise crew was skilled pros who did all parts of the job efficiently and with good cheer. Everyone worked well together and were easy for us the homeowners to deal with throughout the job. The results of last week's project were not only first-rate from an engineering standpoint, but also the aesthetics of their work is outstanding. Our rebuilt driveway is beautiful. Earthwise gives excellent value for the fees they bid and they do the kind of high-quality, heavy-machinery work that is far beyond any DIYer. Check out their website (https://earthwiseearthworks.com/) for photo samples of what they can do for you. We would recommend Dominic Dahl-Bredine and his EarthWise crew to anyone."

"We needed someone to install tile around the bathtub at an apartment unit we own. Joey at 2 Daughters Handyman came to the rescue. He quoted us a fair price based on what we could see. However, once he started the work other complications were discovered such as mold behind the existing wall. Joey and his crew were able to take care of each issue and charged us a fair amount for the extra work performed. We were very impressed with his willingness to get the job done in a timely manner. He even went to two or three places on his own to find the tile we wanted. We will definitely use 2 Daughters again and would recommend them to anyone needing his services.

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

The material that’s best for your private road depends on your property, the climate in your area, and your personal preferences. Gravel is an affordable option, but some homeowners don’t like how it looks. It can be a pain to remove snow from, and it requires more ongoing maintenance than asphalt or concrete. However, while these other options require less maintenance and make snow removal a breeze, they’re more expensive and will need repairs from time to time. Ultimately, you’ll have to choose the road material that suits you and your property best.

Concrete is typically the best material for a driveway if you’re looking for longevity, cost-effectiveness, and ease of maintenance. But, it’s not ideal for areas with annual freeze-frost cycles, nor is it the most attractive option—although you can get it stamped or painted. If your location is consistently below freezing, asphalt may be a better choice.

Regular cleaning, sealing, and timely repair of cracks help maintain its condition.

A driveway approach is the part of a driveway where the public road meets the private driveway. This section contains several key elements, including the driveway apron, the curb cut, and the end slope. Depending on the slope of the driveway, this area may also contain the trench drain.

Driveway aprons typically range between four and seven inches thick, though your town's building codes will likely have specific requirements. Additionally, you may need to add a layer of permeable aggregate in the excavation below your paved apron to ensure proper stormwater drainage.
