Customers say: Quality work

"From the first meeting to the finished project, I was impressed with Chris. He was very knowledgeable and willing to work with my ideas and helped on some other side jobs. The metal pergola looks just like the wood it replaced. Not enough can be said for the work ethic. Always on time and cleaned the area. They are a great team, and you cannot go wrong using them."

"We had a first-rate experience with this renovation team. They truly helped us realize the vision of what we imagined, and beautiful results were delivered. A home project of this scale is daunting to say the least and if issues arose they were addressed and resolved. We are absolutely thrilled with how everything turned out and would hire them again."

"I hired AZR after watching them do a landscape for one of my neighbors. They came in with a very reasonable price. Workers showed up on time and worked hard all day! They cleaned up after themselves daily. When digging a fountain up for repair, they moved all construction material and dirt into a paved work area and didn't mess up my lawn. Terrific Job! I am fully satisfied and hired them for a second job."

"These guys are true professionals at their trade. After months of looking in the big box stores and contacting several cabinet makers, my wife and I found Ordonez Cabinets and Doors LLC. They explained everything that we needed to know and helped us feel at ease with the process. They were reasonable in price compared to the estimates that we had already received. They built the cabinets and installed them to perfection. We now have the kitchen that we dreamed about for years."

Woodworking questions, answered by experts

Joists do distribute their load to beams, but they don’t sit on top of the beams. Instead, home builders nail or screw the joists directly to the beams such that the end of the joist butts up against the edge of the beam. Beams can sit on other beams for support, but you’ll never see a joist sitting on top of a beam or another joist.

Labor plays a significant role in the installation of butcher block countertops. Depending on who you hire, your location, the customization level of the project, and whether the wood is already finished, you may pay a professional between $10 and $150 per square foot to install a butcher block countertop. On average, expect the per-hour price to run between $60 and $100.

While you may have heard people use millwork and carpentry interchangeably, they aren’t the same. Millwork is a type of carpentry, which means that carpentry isn’t always millwork. You can tell millwork apart from other types of carpentry because it’s manufactured at a mill. Notably, casework is also confused with millwork. Casework is different because it refers to boxes like cabinets and bookshelves.

Before hiring a carpenter, the most important thing is to make sure they are properly qualified and insured for the job. It’s more than reasonable to ask your prospective carpenter for customer references, as well as about their licensing and insurance. You should also consider choosing a carpenter that specializes in your specific project area to ensure high-quality results.

Yes, you can find ceiling joists using simple tools if a stud finder isn't available.

Using a hammer requires patience and a keen ear. Gently tap the ceiling in a grid pattern, listening for sound changes. A hollow sound indicates space between joists, while a solid, dull thud suggests a joist. Mark the location with a pencil and confirm by tapping from different angles.

Alternatively, you can use a nail, but this method will leave small holes. You'll feel increased resistance when the nail hits a joist. Mark the spot and repeat the process every 16 or 24 inches to map the joist locations. This method is considered less reliable than using a stud finder.
