We moved to San Antonio, TX and visited with a number of cabinet makers and suppliers. A number submitted quotes, but neither their work, flexibility in design, or prices came close to Mike's. His design included a 10' high wall of cabinets 17' long including a desk area, and 21' of cabinets with no uppers that formed the remainder of a "U" of cabinetry, In the middle is a 9' L-shaped island that is supported by 18 drawers and has a 7' table that seats 5. There are a total of 53 drawers, 14 30" x 30" cabinets, 4 cookie sheet cabinets, and other built-in specialty slide-outs. Doors and drawer fronts have a simple, easy-to-clean, beveled design, Cabinets have several coats of Sherwin-Williams "downy" paint covered with multiple layers of lacquer resulting in a light opal-like sheen that is stunning.
Subcontractors, craftspeople, and vendors who work on our home are struck by the beauty and quality of Mike's work. We couldn't be happier with the result.
Mike listens very carefully and does everything with the customer in mind. When he perceives there is a better way, he will explain it in the gentlest, straight-forward way and let you make a choice. I have found it to our advantage to follow his advice. He is absolutely trustworthy. fair, and would rather lose money than disappoint a customer. You cannot go wrong in having Mike and his wife, Jen, remodel or design/build your cabinets.
I needed to replace 3 kitchen cabinet doors that had been chewed up by our beagle. I was hoping to update the kitchen by replacing all the doors, hardware and countertop. After talking to a GC I found out the cabinet doors were going to have to be custom built as they were not standard size. They are original to the house built in 1964.
The cost of a complete remodel was way over my budget so I decided to just get the 3 doors replaced and dreaded finding someone that could match the color. Originally they were birch in a honey wheat, but prior owners had bleached them to something approaching natural, so I knew matching the color would probably be challenging.
I found 3 possibilities on Angie's list and only Millwork Resource was also on the Better Business Bureau with an excellent rating.
I sent Mike pictures of the damage and he was able to get me back a quote without actually seeing the doors. $125 each if I could get them to his shop, which just happened to be a couple of miles away. I dropped them off and he said about 3 weeks which is exactly when they were ready.
The color is an amazing match. Only by looking closely at the edges can you tell they are not all the same age. The edges are a bit worn on the older ones. I am so very happy!!
Mike was able to match it perfectly. He did an outstanding job. He was meticulous about his workmanship and took his time and
the result far exceeded my expectations.
Mike had several suggestions that I would not have thought of which gave my kitchen better function. He suggested a better way
to set up the lower cabinet doors to give me a much larger rollout shelf than I would have had. Also, made suggestions on the
refacing of the islands which gave my kitchen a beautiful finish.
I told him I wanted some glass doors. His suggestion balanced the kitchen very nicely.
Timewise, I was not hurried so I received quality workmanship which was far more important to me than when the work was completed.
I told Mike from the start that time was not an issue for me.
I would highly recommend Mike and plan to hire him on another project.
We had our kitchen cabinets resurfaced some time ago by a firm no longer doing business in Albuquerque. They did a fine job. By comparison Mr. Page's work is amateurish. The new material to cover the front of the linen press does not fir tightly against it. We had to ask him to caulk the gap. He was able to do that on only 2 of the three sides. The new facing material is quite thick ~3/4and quot; oak. Only the front surace and one side on these boards are sanded and treated with polyurethane, The other edges are raw oak, unsanded and unsealed..
We asked him to put new faces on the existing drawers. To do this he had to cut off the old ones and install a piece to attach the new drawer fronts to. [The same was done when the kitchen cabinets were resurfaced so we knew what was needed.] The new pieces at the front of the drawers do not match up with the ends of the sides. So their is a visible gap between that and the new drawer fronts. On one of the drawers the new front is slightly too wide so the drawer drags against the sides when it is moved.
On one end of the cabinet in the main bath Mr. Page installed a piece of molding that ran from the bottom on the counter top to the top of the baseboard. At the other end of the same cabinet he cut the baseboard so the molding would run to the floor. This piece did not fit tightly against both the cabinet and the wall. We asked Mr. Page to rectify this. He used screws to pull it in tighter. The screws went into the wood molding and left unsightly and rough spots sticking up. When we noticed that he had cut the baseboard to install this molding we asked him to remove the molding altogether. He did, with a pry bar. This pulled the screws out and damaged the cabinet and wire staples were also left sticking in the cabinet.
Mr. Page used power tools to install the cabinet hardware. This left rough burrs on some of the screw heads that need to be filed down
Mr. Page may do well building cabinets from scratch but I cannot recommend him to refinish existing cabinets.
Mike was here when he said he would be and completed the work in a timely manner.
Mile's work is beautiful. I show all my friends my cabinets when they come to visit.
Most of all, it was a pleasure working with him and his wife. They are great people in my book.
I plan to reface my kitchen cabinets in the future and I will call him.
Mike explained everything very well to my wife and me and was patient explaining the options. Because I was reluctant to take the standard particle board cabinets offered by all installers these days, he offered an upgrade to birch plywood, a much superior material, for very little more. I highly recommend this upgrade because birch plywood is attractive and much stronger, lighter, more water resistant, and you can put screws in it. For the drawers I also specified Blumotion self-closing drawer glides, the best quality available, and worth it. For the cabinet doors he offered several styles and types of wood. We went with natural alder doors, which go well with the birch plywood and won't show wear easily, although alder is softer than some other woods. Because the original bid was quite reasonable compared to other bids I felt comfortable adding minor upgrades. We had received three higher bids from other vendors, all for lower quality cabinets.
In a pantry area one slightly complicated built-in cabinet was refaced. This means the old doors were removed, the front wood was sanded flat and covered with matching adhesive-backed wood-grain sheeting, and new doors and drawers were installed. It came out fine, but I'm glad we went with new cabinetry elsewhere.
Mike communicated well throughout the entire process. He listened carefully and did exactly what we wanted. He was on schedule for the installation date (as promised, after about six weeks of fabrication time). He's a one-man operation (no assistants), and it all went smoothly, taking about three days overall for installation. He also went the extra mile to put a removable backing on one cabinet covering an electrical junction box, and after the job was over and the plumber had to tear a hole in the back of the cabinet under the sink to lower the drainpipe, Mike came and put a patch over the hole at no extra charge. He obviously takes pride in his work, communicates well, his prices are reasonable, and quality is excellent.
After Mike was finished I ordered and installed Blumotion soft-closes on the cabinet doors. This was easy, just driving one self-tapping screw for each. They give a nice noiseless damped closing motion to the high-quality self-closing hinges he used.
Did a good job of matching the wood grain and color of the existing cabinetwork. Initially installed the doors with the finger pulls (not knobs) on the bottom sides of the doors, which is pretty standard. But he and I noticed that, because the control panel for the oven protruded a bit, it was difficult to get one's finger into the gap comfortably. He switched the left and right doors so that the finger pulls were (are) now on the tops of the doors and easy to use. Mike also did a careful job of explaining how to adjust the hinges to align the two doors.
Price was only about half what the company that did the rest of the kitchen cabinetry bid to do the same job, so it's a bit churlish of me to rate the price as only and quot;goodand quot;. (Hope springs eternal.)
We're very pleased with the new shelf and doors.
We've made Price N/A because we really don't know what we'd compare it to. We have absolutely NO complaints about the bill.
