"Called before heading over, did an excellent job installing our drawer pulls in our kitchen, cleaned up after themselves and charged a fair price for the work. Will be using them again for other projects."

"We are extremely happy with how our new windows and new front door turned out. After some unexpected challenges with the way our home was built, our installation crew quickly and efficiently adapted to make sure our windows and door were installed with expert care. "I called another company 1st, They told my aging mother that my furnace was too old and no parts were made for it anymore. They wanted to sell me a new furnace (only the 1 brand they sold). Not only that, they wanted to rewire my new water heater for another $350! They told my mother that my house could blow up any minute! Obviously they were trying to take advantage of an old woman. I then called PHC, who over the phone could tell me they were happy to work on my older furnace and parts were no problem. The owner himself came out to do the estimate and showed me the problem. Just a thermocouple. I really appreciated that he took time to explain and show me the problem. He sent a very nice worker out the next day and they were happy to work around my work schedule. The woman who works on the phone is a bit stuffy, but overall I was hugely satisfied. When I had the thermocouple replaced 6 years before by a different company and it cost 15 dollars more!"

"We hired JS&W because of some good reviews we found, and their estimate came in well under 3 competitors'. Our new windows and stucco look great. The subcontractors for the window installation came on time, worked quickly, and even replaced our blinds and curtains when they were done. Every single window fit and works perfectly. The stucco work also looks great. James was helpful and professional throughout the process, and kept us posted when there were some understandable pandemic-related delays. Yes, we'd hire JS&W again."

Glaziers questions, answered by experts

You should always pack glasses standing up. It will eliminate the pressure that comes with weight when delicate items are stacked on top of each other horizontally. Don’t forget to wrap each glass individually with bubble wrap, and don’t add anything on top except for additional padding. Always mark these boxes as fragile.

Yes, you can hire someone to hang a mirror in your home if you’re unable to tackle the job yourself. You can search for nearby mirror installers, but often, your best bet is a local handyperson. If you’re having other work done in the same room, such as plumbing, drywall, or electrical, those contractors are likely able to help hang the mirror as well—no need to hire someone else.

There is no blanket number when it comes to glass thickness for soundproofing. Thicker glass does help reduce noise, but it’s only part of the solution. Most single-pane windows use glass that’s ⅛” to ¼” thick. While increasing the thickness can cut down on sound, the real noise-blocking power comes from stacking layers. Double—and triple-pane windows are far more effective for soundproofing. The combination of mass and separation breaks up sound waves better than thick glass could on its own.

When glass shatters, larger shards quickly drop to the ground, but smaller particles can go on an airborne journey up to 15 feet from the point of impact. So check under furniture, along the edges of rugs, and in dark corners for glass fragments. When in doubt, vacuum the entire room a few times after thoroughly cleaning.

Start by attaching the mirror to a wall stud if possible. Next, use appropriate hardware for the mirror's size and the wall material. That could look like drywall anchors, toggle bolts, or self-drilling anchors to ensure a strong hold. Additionally, D-rings or hanging brackets are more secure than a nail. You can also use mirror adhesive to secure small or larger mirrors with a vanity as a base.
