"I recently hired Lucas Tree Removal Service to cut and remove one very large and one medium sized Elm tree next to my house. Lucas worked with me on the price to complete the removal of the trees. He removed them professionally without any damage to my house and other property. Clean-up was outstanding and he completed the work in two days. The crew worked in a very safe manner... practiced "safety first". I watched them work from beginning to end of the project. Lucas has many years of experience and he has a wealth of knowledge in the tree removal business. I am going to have him back in April to cut and remove another large tree. I highly recommend Lucas Tree Removal Services to cut and remove your unwanted/hazard trees. G Quintana Monte Vista, Colorado"

"We had a large tree fall with the high winds. We called Santiago and he promptly came out and took care of it. He cut up the trunk, and split it up for firewood and removed all the slash. We were very happy with his work. We would highly recommend Santiago ."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

Debris removal is often included in the overall cost of having a tree removed from your property. However, tree maintenance service companies do not always include debris removal in their pricing, so ask any contractors offering tree trimming cost estimates whether or not removal is included. If you want to keep the wood mulch, ask if they charge extra for it as well.

Dead trees are dangerous for several reasons. They are structurally compromised and prone to branch or trunk failure, which can pose a significant safety risk to people, vehicles, and nearby structures. Dead trees can also harbor pests like termites, which may spread to other trees or your home. If a tree died from a disease, it could spread the illness to healthy trees. Additionally, the dry wood is highly flammable, increasing fire risk.

Not every arborist climbs trees, but most will do so if that’s the best method for assessing or treating a tree. Arborists have a variety of tree climbing gear and safety equipment to choose from when climbing trees. Consult your local arborist about their tree-climbing plan if your service requires that type of task.

Generally, you’ll want to prune back the trunk by 1 to 2 feet each year to promote bushy growth. Doing so concentrates vegetative buds closer to the bottom of the tree, where you can easily harvest fruit. For side shoots that are a year old, leave at least six leaves.

Never remove more than 30% of a tree’s foliage during pruning—even if your tree is really overgrown. Removing this much foliage at a time could kill your tree.

A chainsaw is the best tool to cut down a tree, but you may also use a handsaw or ax. You may also want to use a lopper or pole saw to remove limbs before cutting down the tree. Wear chainsaw chaps and protective gear, including eyewear and earplugs if you use a chainsaw. Again, if you’re unsure about how to use this tool, this project may be one to skip.
