"Really impressed with Tim. I hired him to do one project and most likely a 2nd. Not being at all knowledgeable about electrical matters myself, I really appreciated the time he took and the effort he made to explain how things work. The first project, installing a ceiling fan, met up with an obstacle due to my miscalculation, and he and his crew found a solution to the issue (giving me options) and still got his work done in a timely manner. Honestly, he was not even going to charge me more than originally stated in his bid but that's not fair! My 2nd project involves a bathroom and kitchen remodel to be done in a couple of months. His advice was practical and economical unlike another electrician who wanted to take me "to the cleaners"! Rare to find a tradesman willing to put the client's best interest before their own."

"I had some electrical problems and Jenna came out and gave me exactly what I wanted! She explained to me what she could do to solve my problem and she was going to put in some electrical boxes by my Internet router and I got exactly what I wanted. I’m extremely happy. She’s very knowledgeable, courteous, and a very nice person."

"They came to my home the day I called them, unlike other electricians who gave me a two week window, and Rio let me know if they were going to be a few minutes late. The two gentlemen who came were friendly, easy to work with, and highly skilled. They did an excellent job checking outlets and installed lighting fixtures. Their customer service was great, and I will definitely use this company again. I HIGHLY recommend them to any one who needs electrical work. Rio is outstanding! Nancy B."

"Mr. Bay performed his electrical services in a very professional manner. He corrected electrical wiring/installation errors made by previous electricians, and installed both exterior and interior light fixtures expertly. He was very prompt to the job site, and provided both military/senior discounts for his services. I am exceedingly pleased with his and the company's performance."

Ceiling Fans questions, answered by experts

The direction you want your ceiling fan to move in depends on the season you’re in. During summer, you want it to move counterclockwise to produce a cooling downdraft. During winter, you want it to move clockwise to circulate warm air throughout the room.

If you’re removing a ceiling fan without visible screws, start by locating the fan canopy—a round cover placed above the fan blades and motor. There should be a thin ring that can be turned counterclockwise to remove the canopy and reveal the screws. After unscrewing the fan, you can disconnect the wires and remove the entire fan from the mounting hardware. For safety, make sure the fan switch is turned off before you remove the canopy. It may be easier to remove the fan blades first, too.

A typical fan installation takes between two and six hours. The exact timeframe can be influenced by factors such as the home's structure, existing electrical characteristics, ease of attic access, and whether complex wiring or additional attic ventilation work is required.

Yes, you can install a ceiling fan where a standard light fixture is, as the electrical wiring is often similar and may not need to be replaced. The most important step is to ensure the ceiling can support the fan's weight and motion. You will need to replace the existing light fixture's electrical box with a fan-rated electrical box, which is specifically designed to handle the extra weight and vibration. These boxes will be labeled as suitable for ceiling fan support and will indicate the maximum weight they can hold. Before you begin, also consider if you need an extension rod for a high ceiling or a special mount for an angled ceiling.

Ceiling fans are very often worth the investment because they improve comfort in your living space and help reduce utility bills. In the late spring and early fall—and even in the summer in some areas—homeowners with ceiling fans can often get away with open windows and fans, which can cut down on cooling bills and also reduce wear and tear on the HVAC system. Over time, ceiling fans can pay for themselves by saving you money on electric bills and air conditioner repair and maintenance.
