"Two jobs: plumb a bathtub, and install and plumb a gas wall furnace. These guys are hard workers who try to accommodate customer needs. Gabe was here several times and really knows what each job entails. We are lucky Pipeworks is local and will come out on short notice!"

The frig is about 17 years old and still working.  Patrick knew exactly what is wrong with it.  The compressor will have to be replaced at some point which will cost about $600.   Given the age, Patrick's recommendation was to purchase a new refrigerator - not to waste money with repairs.  Good advice, and I appreciate the honesty.

He also tested my dishwasher to see why the dishes are coming out gritty and filmy.  He confirmed that it is functioning properly, which is what the last provider told me.   But Patrick determined the problem - he ran the water to see how hot it was and determined my hot water temperature was set way too low.   He explained that the water has to be above a certain temperature to fully activate the agents in the dishwasher detergent.   I had no idea!

Patrick had a lot of other great advice and tips, and if he recommends replacing an appliance, he is very knowledgeable about the best brands and which ones to avoid.

Dryer Vent Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Yes, most services include ductwork and venting to ensure adequate airflow. Confirm with your contractor.

No, air ducts and dryer vents are not the same. The dryer vent is connected to a specific appliance, the dryer, and is meant to direct the hot, moist air from the washed clothes to the outside of the home. Air ducts move air from the HVAC system around the home. It’s essential to schedule cleanings for the dryer vent and the air ducts.

The main factor to a full lint trap is what you are drying. Clothing or textiles made of heavy natural materials, like wool sweaters or cotton towels, generally create more lint than synthetic fibers. If you wash the same type of clothes all the time and suddenly start to notice more lint, that may be a sign that your dryer vent is getting clogged and you need to call in a pro for a professional cleaning.

While maintaining a clean dryer vent is crucial for your household’s safety, a professional dryer vent cleaning service will do the trick, and replacing the vent isn’t usually necessary. Provided you don’t see any kinks in your vent or damage to the exterior, a cleaning will maintain your home’s safety and will cost you less than a full replacement. You’ll spend an average of $150 on dryer vent cleaning, while a replacement will cost about $225, and both will yield more or less the same result.

To lower humidity quickly, run a dehumidifier or your home's air conditioner or turn on exhaust fans to extract moisture. These methods can quickly and effectively bring your home's humidity levels to a comfortable condition. However, you should consistently practice humidity-reducing tasks to maintain proper indoor humidity levels.
