"I had a bad computer board in my oven. they said they would not cover it because they found a roach. This is Florida we have some roaches. i do not have a bug problem. It has nothing to do with a bad computer board. This company looks for a way to deny claims. i had one other claim and they tried to deny it as well. Save yourself some agravation and stay away. They must post their own positive reviews. They took my $65.00 fee and did nothing"

"I used CERL on a number of mold inspections and for testing. They did great at providing results needed and going general inspections prior to home purchase. My only recommendation is to call CERL to review the report with them as they are difficult to understand and they are careful how they word things as they have to be careful working in Santa Fe with some much property bought and sold. I plan to use them for future testing that I will need done. I feel they are the best in town and well work the cost of the mold inspection to know what your purchasing."

Insurance companies weigh the amount of potential liabilities on your property to increase (or decrease) the cost of your home insurance. They will use several factors to decide if there are more chances for peril or injury to take place at your home. These factors include your location (whether you live in an area with high risk for natural disasters), the age and condition of your home, and whether you have any “attractive nuisances”—features that both increase the aesthetic of your home and potential for injury—like a pool or treehouse. 

The person who requests the inspection should select the inspector themselves. This way, there are no conflicts of interest, and the inspection report offers an objective, unbiased look into the condition of the property.

These are some of the critical considerations when planning to make your home accessible:

  • How wide are your doorways, wheelchair ramps, hallways, and pathways? These should be at least 32 inches wide.

  • Which bathroom modifications will be necessary? 

  • Do you need to lower any cabinetry or other fixtures to make them accessible for wheelchair users?

  • Is there enough room to turn around in the shower?

  • Is there a second story of the home that requires a stair lift?

  • Is there proper lighting outside in the dark? If not, a floodlight may be necessary.

Most areas require both a building permit and an electrical permit for the installation of a home wind turbine. You may also need zoning approval, especially if your property is in a residential neighborhood or near protected land. Inspections are needed after foundation work and upon completion of electrical connections. Permit costs can range from $100 to $1,000, depending on local regulations and project complexity.

An inspection to look for damper handles is the best way to know if your house has dampers in the ducts. Not all homes have them, as some home builders may try to save money on the construction by leaving dampers out of the ducts. You can install them yourself later if desired, but you may have to do quite a bit of work and take on a partial air duct replacement cost, which could be $1,000 or more.
