"Mike was the lowest bidder. That often concerns me, but in the actual event, he worked around difficult weather conditions to get the job done before winter set in. His crew was professional. The repairs were done correctly and cleanup was excellent. At one point, we discussed a difficult driveway that had not been asphalted because this neighbor is recovering from a devastating financial setback brought on by health issues. This led to a significant erosion issue after every major rain. A trench had developed through the width of the driveway. Mike said he would add in a fix for her drive at no extra cost to the HOA that had contracted with him for the other repairs. I expected a few feet of asphalt to cover the culvert that was crushing and eroding. He actually created a driveway entrance about 30 ft. wide and extending about 12 ft. up the drive. I was stunned. See the included photo. He and his crew went far beyond our expectations both in the work we had contracted for and also in the work he offered to do for out neighbor. I would highly recommend Mike and Martin's Asphalt to anyone. I included photos of the drive way fix and one of four roadway patches."

Asphalt Driveways questions, answered by experts

Homeowners in Farmington often balance durability with initial investment. Choosing a thicker asphalt layer or a polymer-modified mix improves longevity against temperature swings but increases the project's cost. Another trade-off involves timing; scheduling work during the peak season ensures better weather conditions but may come at a premium compared to booking during the off-season when weather windows are limited.

Helpful?

In New Mexico, widespread alligator cracking, significant rutting, or soft spots indicating base failure mean you likely need new asphalt paving work. In contrast, isolated linear cracks can often be addressed with simple crack sealing. A faded, chalky surface from intense UV exposure typically just requires a new layer of sealcoat to restore its appearance and protective qualities.

Helpful?

Professionals in Farmington prioritize asphalt paving work based on severity and safety. Structural failures, large potholes, and major drainage problems that could worsen with winter freezes are addressed first. Preventative measures like crack sealing are a medium priority, while cosmetic tasks such as routine sealcoating are considered low priority. This ensures the most critical issues are handled before they escalate.

Helpful?

For asphalt paving projects in Farmington, choose materials suited for the high desert climate. An asphalt mix with polymer additives offers enhanced flexibility against temperature extremes. When sealcoating, use a product with UV inhibitors to combat intense sun exposure. For repairs, hot-pour crack sealants are effective because they remain flexible through hot summers and cold winters, preventing further damage.

Helpful?

In Farmington, NM, a seasonal routine is key for asphalt care. In spring, inspect for new cracks from winter's freeze-thaw cycles. During the hot summer, check for soft spots and UV damage. In the fall, it's important to fill any cracks and clear drainage areas to prepare the surface for cold weather. This proactive approach helps manage damage from the area's significant temperature swings.
