"The contract from the salesperson was complete and comprehensive. However, I was misinformed about the crews coming to perform my remodel. There was only one crew that did the demolition and installation. There was no licensed plumber. The project manager was missing for key issues. I feel the remodel was WAY overpriced for the amount of work performed."

"I needed some plumbing work done for my house and called him to look at the area that needed the job. He came when on the day he said he would come and gave me an estimate. We scheduled an appointment and he came on the day of the appointment and did his job professionally. I am very happy with his work. He is also a very nice and honest person.

Plumbing Handymen questions, answered by experts

The regulations around whether drain pipe installers need to hold licenses or certifications differ based on where you live and the type of drain pipe installed. Municipalities have varying rules and regulations about who can and can’t perform plumbing work. However, we recommend hiring a certified plumber to install or modify your drain lines. Licensed plumbers will perform a high-quality, professional installation, which translates to a lower risk of clogs and leaks in the future. Use Angi’s state licensing tool to confirm the license status of your potential plumber before hiring them to install your drain pipe.

Yes, continuing to flush a clogged toilet is not likely to break up the clog. Instead, it will continue to put pressure on the clog while filling the bowl with more water, which can potentially cause the toilet to overflow—leading to an even bigger mess. Rather than repeatedly flushing, use a toilet plunger or plumber’s snake to dislodge the clog.

Yes. There are a variety of standard pipe sizes used in plumbing. The main supply line connecting your home to the street is either 3/4 or 1 inch in diameter. Supply lines are 3/4 inch in diameter. Individual components are 1/2 inch in diameter. Meanwhile, your main drainpipe is often 4 inches wide. Most shower and bathtub drains are 2 inches in diameter, most toilet drains are 3 inches in diameter, and most sink drainpipes are 1 1/4 or 1 ½ inches in diameter.

You can use a water leak microphone to find an underground leak in your irrigation system. To do this, shut off the water to your system. Then, grab your sprinkler system’s map to get acquainted with the locations of your sprinkler heads, valve boxes, and water lines. Walk around these areas, waving the microphone’s sensory rod near the ground to detect the sound of water moving through your system.

Start by unscrewing the overflow valve, which is located on the wall of your tub between the floor drain and the tub spout. Gently insert a plumbing snake down into the pipe, move it back and forth, and pull it out. Remove any hair, debris, and soap scum that comes out with it. Repeat the process until the snake comes out clean, and then reinstall the cap on your overflow valve.
