"Excellent. I've never found anybody that knows as much as he does about plumbing, electrical and HVAC. He's just absolutely wonderful. I would not use anybody else. He knows and explains things. He's a bit cheaper on some of the main plumbers."

"Went well to this point of replacing parts. Then the United needed to have a system leak test and then needed freon put in pump. This was refused by Choice warranty. We were left with a partial repair and a heat pump not able to do it's job."

"I was not very impressed with them. We decided not to go with them. The guy came out gave us the bid. He was actually very informational. He was very polite and respectable. He said he would have our bid to us within 7 business days and we finally heard from him last week. We took these bids about 4 weeks ago. We were almost done with the project at that point. I physically received the bid last week but he came out to do the estimate about 4 weeks ago. It was remodeling the living room, master bathroom and the kitchen. He seemed to be very knowledgeable about his trade. He was absolutely more than willing to listen to what our ideas were and he was also willing to share what he thought would be a good idea from his prospective on what would be the best way and cheapest way to do our projects, which we really appreciated. The biggest issue we had was he said he would have the bid to use within 7 business days and it was almost 3 weeks before we heard from him.We definitely would not call him out to do another bid because; it just kind of wasted our time. "

"I have been with AHS since 1999 and have used them 4 times: dryer belt broke, dishwasher leaked, heat pump quit working properly, and dryer stopped working. Yes, it is frustrating to wait on hold for a long time, but I have been pleased overall with the service provided. They subcontract the work out, and in the case of the dryer, the guy did not know how to fix the problem and left. AHS followed up immediately with another provider, who had fixed my first dryer problems 8 years ago, and was very knowledgable and did an excellent job. Service charge is standard $75. I have an annual maintenance plan for my heating/cooling systems with a heating company and when they came out this past fall, they found a problem with the heat pump and quoted the fix at $2,000 plus. I called AHS and they confirmed my heat pump was covered under the warranty and sent someone out the very next day. They immediately fixed the problem and I paid them the $75 service fee. Thus far, I have had good experiences and will continue my annual plan with them."

Wells and Pumps questions, answered by experts

Unfortunately, yes. If your well pump continues working when the flow of water is completely blocked, the motor will burn up. The energy has nowhere to go, thanks to the blockage, so it turns inward. The end result? A ruined well pump and a depleted bank account (once you shop for a replacement.)

Wells typically replenish at a rate of about five gallons per minute, but several variables can influence how quickly they refill. A deep well will take more time to replenish than a shallow one. The replenishment rate can be slowed by issues such as leaks, damage, a faulty well pump, or a clogged well screen. Other factors, such as the surrounding geology, regular precipitation, and proper maintenance, also affect the recovery rate.

For the most part, choosing between 30/50 psi and 40/60 psi is based on your water-pressure preference. However, it can also depend a little bit on your house—if you have older plumbing, a lower water pressure can be easier on the pipes (and a bit more gentle on your well pump).

The lower 30/50 pressure is usually enough for a single-story home, but you may want 40/60 if you have multiple stories, as the extra pressure helps water flow smoothly up to the second floor.

You should check water pressure twice a year to ensure there aren’t any irregularities and that it isn’t too high. It’s also smart to check it any time you notice symptoms of high water pressure (like banging pipes, inconsistent water flow, and leaky fixtures). Similarly, if you live in an area that’s prone to water pressure fluctuations due to municipal supply changes, elevation, or seasonal temperature shifts, check it more frequently. You can buy an affordable water pressure gauge and check the water pressure yourself.

There are many reasons you may want to extend the depth of an existing well or drill a new, deeper well on your property. A deeper well can tap cleaner water sources—shallow water may contain more contaminants. With a deeper well, you’ll also have an easier time reaching the water table depth (the level at which underground water is found) and can get past tricky soil conditions.

Plus, if your local building code requires a minimum well depth for safety and environmental standards, you’ll meet the code by digging a deeper well in the first place.
