"The technicians (Joe, CJ, and Larry) are all fantastic. The manager (Roger) comes across as pompous, condescending and belligerent. Roger threatened me with legal action after his company was the one who messed up twice. Once, when they failed to inform me of their payment collection policy and tried to tell me I was at fault; then again when they failed to immediately address an issue with a water line that they had supposedly fixed months ago. The manager spoke over me instead of listening to my concerns and tried to intimidate me with threats. I suspect he bullies his employees, as well. When he spoke of the technician whom he blames for failing to inform me of the payment policy his words were ?believe me he has what?s coming.? Furthermore, Roger tried to teach me how financial institutions function. I am a woman and do sound younger than my true age over the phone but it was not until I shared my age and profession with Roger that he changed his condescending tone. "

Sewer Cleaning questions, answered by experts

A sewage smell in your crawl space is usually from a damaged or clogged pipe leaking sewer gasses or actual sewage underneath your home, but there are some other common causes. Moisture, from poor or damaged encapsulation or a malfunctioning sump pump, can harbor mold and bacteria, causing a musty smell. Pests can also get stuck in your crawl space and die, which causes a sewage-like odor.

No, you should not see water in a sewer cleanout. If you do, it could indicate that you have a block or leak in your main sewer line—which can cause sewage to back up inside your home and potentially flood your yard. Your best bet is to call a local sewer cleaner if you notice any water or sewage around your cleanout.

Your home has a few telltale signs of a sewer line problem. If you notice multiple plumbing fixtures (toilet, sink, or shower drains) appear to be clogged, call a plumber ASAP. Also, if water appears in the tub or shower when you flush the toilet, you likely have a sewer line issue. A sulfur (rotten eggs) smell and bubbling or gurgling noises at the drain also warrant a check. And keep your eyes peeled for changes to the yard, such as a new indentation or mysteriously soggy grass.

The cost to unclog a sewer line is between $200 and $600, with the average homeowner spending around $380, depending on the severity of the clog. It can cost as little as $100 to snake a small clog, but you could spend up to $1,600 if you need to video inspect the line and hydrojet a large clog.

If you don’t have a sewer cleanout, clearing out clogs can be extremely difficult. You would need to try to clear the clog from sink drains, but it can be harder to reach the clog all the way in the drain line. A sewer cleanout makes it much faster and easier for pros to clear clogs from your main sewer line.
