Small jobs welcome

"I couldn’t be happier with the walk in closet Fabiano built for me. The craftsmanship is top-notch, every shelf and drawer is perfectly installed, and the finish looks high-end. They really maximized the space, making it look and feel amazing. Communication was excellent throughout the project, and everything was completed on time and within budget. The team was professional, attentive, and clearly cares about delivering quality work. I highly recommend them to anyone looking for custom closet solutions, they truly exceeded my expectations."

"They did a great job. The geometry was rather challenging, lots of oblique angles, nooks and crannies, and the absence of rectilinearity common to old homes, but they made everything fit nicely, joints were tight, and the spackling was very neat and carefully done. They provided a great product."

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"They were nice guys. I wasn't crazy about the service and I wouldn't go back to them. The price was good, but they used some cleaning products that wound up smelling like cleaning products for about a week afterwards. It wasn't bad, it was just a service that I wasn't crazy about. They were nice guys and they were funny and entertaining. I travel quite a bit so we found an agreed upon date within a month. There were no additional fees. They did a good job, but not a great job. You get what you pay for. I have a large kitchen, so the idea that they were going to take everything out of my shelves and it is a big job, so they did the work, but I had only paid $90."

"Incredible! Communication between Joe and myself was seamless, especially as we needed to reschedule last minute due to delayed closing and later, due to weather. Joe was completely on top of it and helpful, covering all details clearly and concisely, and backing up our conversations with emails. The team, Bobby, Chase, and Dylan arrived promptly, walked through the house with me, and then got right to work. They were extremely committed, professional and worked hard, despite the service being hourly. They were flexible to my needs, and kept me updated as they worked on the load-in. I had to leave during the unload, and the minute I got home, they showed me one small part of the wall that had been scuffed. Before they left, they did a walk-thru to make sure I was happy, and helped me change one piece of furniture that was in the wrong place. I did not have one break of anything they moved, and could not believe how helpful, nice, and hard-working these guys were. I also want to mention that I was a young woman handling this move by myself, and I felt completely comfortable and respected the entire time, which is not always the case. These guys were the absolute best, I would use them and recommend them to any of my friends and family."

Closets questions, answered by experts

To prevent sagging, consider both the material and the span of the shelf. Using sturdy materials such as plywood or solid wood can provide better support than particleboard. Additionally, limiting the shelf span to 36 inches or less can reduce the risk of sagging. For longer shelves, incorporating center supports or brackets can offer additional reinforcement.

Walk-in closets are always the biggest and can easily be more than 100 square feet. Primary bedroom closets, even if not walk-ins, are the second largest category in most homes and sit between 30 and 80 square feet. Linen closets, utility closets, and built-in closets are smaller and, depending on their usage, tend to be between 10 and 50 square feet.

There are a few reasons custom closets are expensive: materials used, the luxury factor, and time to build. The people who can afford custom closets are those who can afford increased rates, and construction workers and contractors know this and charge accordingly. The time to build custom closets is substantial, especially if expensive material is being used or intricate details (like carved wood) are added to the project.

If you have a bathroom closet with movable shelves, you can place them at virtually any spacing that works for you. Useful measurements between shelves in the working, or middle, section can be 10 to 16 inches for towels or linens. Lower or higher shelving could be up to 24 inches between shelves to store lesser-used or bulky items or boxes.

Whether it’s less expensive to build or buy a closet depends on both the type of closet and whether or not you’d be constructing it yourself. The cost of custom closets built by a pro ranges from $1,300 to $3,800, but you may be able to DIY it for as little as $400. By contrast, prefabricated options go as low as $200 and up to $3,000, so it’s almost always less expensive to go this route.
