"Had a few patches in drywall that needed repairing due to a leak in my house. Heard from them almost immediately after putting in a request. Communication back-and-forth was fantastic. The work was done and completed neatly in a timely fashion. Everything done as I needed it to be. I would recommend 10 times out of 10 to anybody that needs some drywall work done."

"Jerry is a friendly and knowledgeable guy - he was able to change some lightbulbs in a fixture that was precariously placed in our stairway, and he hung two wooden floating shelves on difficult lath and plaster walls. He made sure the shelves were very strongly supported with toggle bolts, since there was only one stud to work with. I’d hire Jerry again for future work on the house."

"The father/son duo were professional and courteous. Immediately went to work and efficiently replaced our banister including a recommendation to build out the wall for better stability. Will definitely consider for future projects."

"We contacted various drywall contractors through Angi, and received several estimates, but Bryan was not only right in the ballpark with his estimate (not too high, not too low), but he was the most honest and sincere guy we talked to. He not only offered good advice on what we should do to save on cost, but some do’s and don’ts on products available. He also worked with us on a timeline that was feasible for both of us to do the work. We completely demoed out the ceiling in one room all the way to the beams due to its deteriorating condition, and skinned the other two rooms since they were only cracked and showing signs of age. His crew was extremely courteous and efficient. They set up quickly each day to do the work for that day, accomplished more than I had expected, cleaned up at the end of each day, came back for the tape and texturing, and finished the job in three days, plus sanding and clean up. On time and on budget. I highly recommend Bryan’s Handyman & Home Improvement Services, in fact we are now moving onto another phase of the remodel and have hired him to drywall the main living room. I’m confident the job will be done right, and right on time."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

To hide drywall edges, you need to properly apply drywall tape and multiple layers of joint compound. These materials hide the seams between drywall sheets and fill the holes from drywall screws, leaving behind a smooth, flat finish to paint over. Apply joint compound smoothly, and finish the job by sanding the walls to make sure you fully hide drywall edges and other imperfections.

Although they are used for similar tasks, spackle and joint compound are not the same. Joint compound, also known as drywall mud, consists of limestone and gypsum and is primarily used for large-scale projects like taping and finishing seams on new drywall. Spackle is composed of gypsum and binding agents, making it a thicker compound best suited for small wall repairs like filling nail holes or cracks, as it dries quickly and is easy to sand. For small repairs, either product can be suitable. However, you can use joint compound for small jobs in place of spackle, but you cannot use spackle for large-scale taping and mudding projects.

A utility knife is sharp enough to score the drywall and it may work in a pinch for outlet box holes. However, one of the best tools for drywall when you need to make exact cuts for an outlet box quickly is a drywall saw. This handheld tool has a longer blade than a utility knife, so it penetrates the thickness of the drywall easily. The design of its handle and the teeth in its blade make it easier to control while cutting quicker than you can with a utility knife.

If you suspect black mold is inside your walls, do not punch a hole in the drywall yourself to look. Call a mold inspection expert to help you. Some signs of a potential black mold infestation inside the wall include an unexplained musty, damp smell. Some people liken it to rotting vegetables. You may smell it most strongly through a wall outlet. If you and your family are experiencing constant coughing or symptoms that feel like an unexplained allergy, it could indicate black mold behind a wall.

Popular wall textures include orange peel, knockdown, spray sand, and smooth finishes. Orange peel and knockdown are particularly common choices for drywall as they are simple and cost-effective. Orange peel texture has a lightly bumpy surface resembling the skin of an orange, while knockdown (sometimes called knockout) looks like a stucco finish with flattened high spots. In contrast, popcorn texture has fallen out of fashion, partly due to its past association with asbestos and a shift toward more restrained interior design styles.
