"From the very first day, down to the end of the project, these guys are amazing!!!! Chris and Greg met with me several times, went over all the questions I had down to detail. There was no push to buy, like so many of the other window salesman. I felt they just wanted you to get exactly what you wanted, at a great price. Even when the guys came to put in all 10 windows, they were all very nice, pofessional and it was done in a timely manner. I am not going anywhere else for anything, next they will do my siding. This company really is the best!!!!!!!"

Siding questions, answered by experts

Composite siding, with proper care, can last 30 years and sometimes more. Because its color has a tendency to fade, you might want to re-paint it every five years or so. Before purchasing composite siding, check the manufacturer’s warranty—you should have a long-term warranty to back up the quality of the product.

Concrete log siding can last several decades, from 30 to 50 years or more, as long as you keep up with proper maintenance. Luckily, concrete log siding is much lower maintenance than typical types of wood siding, so you’ll also have fewer expenses during that time. To keep your concrete log siding in good shape, you’ll simply need to reseal it every two to five years. Confirm with your manufacturer to determine how often to reseal.

You should use a siding nail gun for siding installation, but if you don’t have one you can use a framing nailer instead, if the nails are long enough to firmly attach to the clapboard siding. However, framing requires longer nails that join lumber together. In that instance, siding nails will not be enough.

When moisture infiltrates your siding, it can result in deterioration and decay of the sheathing, cause structural damage to your foundation, and provides an ideal breeding ground for mold. Mold growth can lead to various health-related problems, such as itchy eyes, sneezing, allergies, and asthma. Mold and dampness commonly attract a wide range of insects, so if your siding has taken any kind of water damage, it could invite some unwelcome guests.

Wood clapboard siding needs frequent sealing to keep it in top condition—likely every two to three years. A sealant helps protect it from both moisture and sunlight damage. Your weather and climate will affect how often you need to seal the siding, but the pros recommend sealing it every couple of years. More durable woods in milder climates may not need to be sealed quite as often.
