"This was a very good experience. They where on time. It was done to the agreed upon price. The owner is Frank Tedeschi. We had a warped junk drawer. Rather then send for new drawer which would have cost us another 250 dollars, Frank repaired the drawer for a nominal fee. This was not part of the deal but he did it anyway. The quality of the work is outstanding. The cabinets look like new if not better. There was minimal inconvenience to us. They removed the cabinets doors and refinished them in their shop and then returned and them and re-installed them."

We are delighted with the finished product and Jim was easy to work with and really listened to what we wanted and produced a beautiful design. "It was a long haul, but not because of this company.  They showed up every day at 8 AM and worked until 5 PM or later.  There was additional work that needed to be done due to the termite damage.  They did the work very professionally and the money added to the bill for this work was more than fair.  The owner, Brian Fitzgerald, employs VERY capable workers.  They were all friendly, courteous and  arrived on time each day.  They all gave us the impression that they cared about our home as much as we did.  When there was an issue with the finish on the cabinet doors/drawers, Brian went to bat for us with the manufacturer and although it took a few months, the manufacturer corrected the problem to our satisfaction.
We were never wondering...Brian would always call and let us know what the next step would be.
All things considered, we would highly recommend Wood N' Dreams for any refurbishing (they don't just do kitchens) and we would be glad to have them back anytime.

Cabinet Making questions, answered by experts

Medicine cabinets are a convenient storage solution, but they’re not the only option. People often use alternatives like open shelving, recessed wall niches, freestanding cabinets, and mirrored bathroom vanities to replace traditional medicine cabinets. These offer storage space while allowing for a more customized and modern look in the bathroom.

It is generally more cost-effective to purchase stock or semi-custom cabinets than to have them custom-built. The best option depends on your budget and customization needs.

Here is a breakdown of the average costs per linear foot:

  • Custom Cabinets: $500 to $1,200. The final price is influenced by factors like materials, size, and design complexity. For example, a basic slab cabinet door might cost $60 to $70 for materials, while a more intricate mullioned glass inset panel door can range from $100 to $200 per door.

  • Semi-Custom Cabinets: $150 to $700.

  • Stock Cabinets: $100 to $400. These are pre-built and the most affordable option, but they offer limited customization and may not be suitable for rooms with unusual shapes or high ceilings.

The 1/3 rule is a design guideline used by interior designers and cabinet installers to select appropriately sized pulls for cabinets and drawers. The rule suggests that for a balanced and cohesive look, a cabinet pull should be approximately one-third the height of the cabinet door or one-third the width of the drawer face. This guideline helps create a symmetrical appearance because the human eye tends to follow the length of the pull across the cabinet face.

While the 1/3 rule is a helpful starting point, it is not the only option. If a measurement falls between available pull sizes, it's generally best to size up. For an ultra-contemporary aesthetic, you can also opt for full-width pulls that span the entire drawer.

In a kitchen installation, starting with the foundation and structural elements before moving on to the finishing touches is essential. Framing, plumbing, and utilities should go first, followed by cabinetry and countertops, then plumbing fixtures and new appliances. Flooring, paint, tile backsplashes, and similar finishing touches should get installed last.

Deciding whether to buy or build a kitchen island depends primarily on two things: your budget and your plans for the island. If you need a working sink or electrical access, you’re safest going with a custom unit. If not, look into a prefabricated unit.
