This was a $150 big deal purchase. I don't think that went very well. It did not really mitigate our issues.  Later on we brought in other contractors from a different service to come in and seal some cracks and whatnot. They just sort of did the bare minimum. I think they charged more than the price of the deal because it was a larger surface area. They did not really solve any of the issues and hey didn't bring to light any other things that could be causing our insulation problems.

"Joe did a great job on this, our dining room was a add on to connect the original home and the garage and had no insulation and boy in the winter it was unusable as well as the kitchen basically (the best part of the house). Joe came and drilled small holes in the attic floor that they sealed up later to allow for blowing in the insulation. And they cleaned up well. we have a 20 month old but there was nothing left over for the baby to put in her mouth. Joe is great! Our dining room is toasty and the kids can play in there year-round Plus they are were less than half of the expensive "efficiency" guys PSEG sent over. Those providers wanted to charge $10,000+ for basically the same job."

"Mark Group was great to work with, very knowledgeable, professional and responsive. We really got the sense that they were experts, and felt the most comfortable with their proposal and recommendations. Our 1950 ranch-style home developed significant mold in the attic, requiring a new roof/ventilation, mold removal and, as a final step, new insulation. Mark Group was very helpful in advising us about potential considerations with roof replacement in addition to the energy/insulation component they were focused on. The team did a terrific job, were very respectful of our home and property and completed the work in a single day.

"I walked up the second flight stairs, everything was clean. When I reached the top landing there were no boxes, no debris, and all evidence that a renovation had taken place was gone. It was the day before the renovation was going to be finished and I was feeling a sense of relief. And I felt a second emotion, a sense of feeling cared for. Working Construction had completed my 100+ year old bathroom renovation on time, in a clean and orderly fashion, at a reasonable price, with hardly any glitches. I started this project with a great deal of trepidation, but the experience turned out to be a first time major renovation rite of passage. I could hardly believe my eyes when I saw the finished product and have barely used it since fearing I would somehow awaken from a dream too good to be true. With that said the bathroom has been used by others including my sister, brother and guests. Seasoned renovators may view my account of this renovation as overdramatic, but owning a very old grumpy Brownstone who relentlessly hurls obscenities at you in the form of bad plumbing, boiler complaining, cracked walls, poorly insulated windows, creaky unlocking doors, peeling linoleum floors, screaming ugly navy blue tiles, greased up fifty year old orange kitchen cabinets, moldy walls, and many and all matter of home repair nightmares, we could only imagine what would be unraveled when completely gutting out a bathroom. Vince and Harold arrived on a Sunday morning to assess the situation. They were reassuring and listened attentively and intently as I discussed my concerns. They assured me it would all be okay and warned me of any possible problems that we might encounter. Of course these were two businessmen that wanted to close the deal, but I sensed sincerity in their voices, and their faces did not indicate any sneaky salesman tactics. There was No macho posturing which I can not stand. I explained that I was sort of in a time predicament. If we were going to start sooner than later the project had to be done quickly, otherwise we would have to start in the new year. Later that day Vince got back to me with a quote and a timeline. He said they could get it done in one week for 11,000. They had the best offer with the quickest turn around and the best demeanor. I said “Yes.” And we were off. The bathroom was gutted out and the building didn’t collapse. Harold and his crew fiercely attacked demolition and the bathroom was completely gutted out in one day with all materials moved off site. They met their objective. Prior to the renovation the bathroom was composed of pink mauve tiles from floor to ceiling, which were starting to come off the wall. Once the walls were removed mold was revealed. We discovered that starting the whole project turned out to be imperative as the loose tiles that had come off the wall had allowed water to seep through causing mold. Harold showed me the decaying wood once all the walls were eliminated. Our new bathroom consists of white modern subway tiles (4 x 6), a hardwood ceramic tile floor, a round mirror with three lights above, a white cabinet, white toilet, and white sink vanity. To create a larger feeling in what was a very small bathroom Harold expanded the bathroom ceiling. I’m not sure why the original ceiling was only about eight feet high since the apartment ceilings are ten or rather twelve feet high, but Harold raised the ceiling making the bathroom feel more expansive. Not only did Harold replace the light fixture, but he added high hat lights inside the shower stall as well, which added additional brightness reflecting off the white tiles. Seriously, when I saw the new bathroom I was like one of those people on a home renovation show rendered speechless. I can’t describe the overwhelming sense of relief I feel having found Working Construction. The project wound up costing a total of 13,000, which was still under budget from what my sister and I had expected to pay. I have additional projects which I plan on seeking their help for, but more than this Working Construction has given me a clearer sense of the possibilities of this building. This bathroom is the best Christmas present I could have asked for and it was delivered by my Christmas angels at Working Construction."

Insulation questions, answered by experts

You don’t need to staple insulation, as your drywall and studs will hold it into place. But if you already have a staple gun and staples lying around, it can help keep the product in place and avoid any shifting. But, most experts agree it’s an unnecessary step.

If you’re adding a vapor barrier, you will need to staple that in place.

Your home's location, budget, and the type of insulation you’re using are just a few of the factors that can help you choose the right insulation. For example, blown-in insulation is typically used in attic spaces, while batts and rolls are ideal for floors and walls. Blown-in insulation is usually a good option if you're adding more insulation to an area that already has some, but not enough.

Yes, usually you will need some kind of vapor barrier on the exterior walls when the framing is attached to concrete and masonry surfaces.

Insulating an unheated garage can still be worth it. For instance, insulating an attached garage can help with heat loss from your house in general, and it can also make it easier to store electronics in your garage without worrying about them being exposed to extreme temperatures.

If you use your detached garage as a workspace, insulation can still make a difference. Plus, you can use space heaters and a window unit AC to help condition the space while you work without installing heating.

Yes, exposure to fiberglass insulation can cause harm to your skin and eyes. However, this typically refers to the fiberglass insulation that is mostly used in walls and attics. Fiberglass doors don’t pose risks for fiberglass exposure because they're fully encased in polymer cladding.
