"No job too big or small. DSK Roofing specializes in roofing but is also very proficient at the other aspects of construction. They are experts in storm damage restoration and can help you get your property back its original condition. Dan helped us out with a last minute issue on a Sunday night. This man was amazing to deal with and did an outstanding job. I wouldn't recommend any other roofing company in Jersey."

"Great company to work with! So professional from beginning to end of the job. We had a slate-look shingle installed on our historic house (1850) and a flat roof replaced on the rear section of the house. Both look awesome. Clean up was excellent!"

"We hired the Roof Wizard to clean the roof and they did an excellent job. Professional, attention to detail and they took time to do the job right. In addition of cleaning the roof, they rinsed the skylights, the siding and all the windows and left the job site clean. They also provided five year warranty that roof will not get black streaks and mildew, which most other roof cleaning companies do not. I'm very impressed with them and will hire them again."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Whether a metal or shingle roof is better for you depends on your preferences. Standing seam metal roofs require little to no maintenance, but if you install a screw-down metal roof where the fasteners are exposed, the gaskets on the fasteners will dry rot and need to be replaced. Generally, screw-down metal roofs need to be re-screwed every 15 to 20 years.

Metal roofs are energy-efficient and have extended warranties, while asphalt shingles are less durable than most. They tend to lose color and get damaged over time, and absorb heat from the sun.

Depending on the type of damage your roof shingles have, you may be able to simply repair them without having to replace them. However, if there are more than a few to repair, replacement is likely the easier option. You may only need to replace a few of them. Repair shingles by applying roofing sealant directly under the shingle's damage and then directly over it.

The level of underlayment’s water resistance will depend on the type of underlayment. The most popular underlayment, felt, is water-resistant, but it can’t withstand long direct exposure to rain or the elements.

Synthetic underlayment is more waterproof, but asphalt is the only fully waterproof type of underlayment.

A roof replacement can take anywhere from one to 14 days. For most homes, a full replacement that includes tearing off old materials takes about one to two days, though the average project can last up to 12 days. The exact timeline depends on several factors, including the roof's size and complexity, the type of roofing material, the crew size, and weather conditions. Certain materials take longer to install; for example, metal roofs can take seven to 14 days because the material is more difficult to work with than asphalt shingles, wood, or tile. A re-roofing project, where new shingles are installed over old ones, can take half the time or less. It's also important to factor in the time needed to obtain necessary permits. A professional roofing contractor will typically complete the job faster than a DIY approach.

A solar roof can replace an existing roof. Solar panels fit on top of traditional roofs. In contrast, solar roofs that contain photovoltaic (PV) materials, like solar shingles and solar tiles, are standalone roofing systems installed as a main roof. In some cases, installers can place them on existing roofs and as part of new construction. Carefully assess and choose the right type of solar roof replacement for your home and needs.
