"They came on time, explained what was to be done (I had met with their arborist prior to this -- so it was confirmation of the excavation, removal and planting), they worked very hard, took care to protect my lawn, cleaned everything up on my property and around the house -- all in record time. By 2:30 pm, I had five large trees that gave me the privacy and beauty I had been dreaming of in my backyard. The next day I put in plantings and it looks like everything has been there for years. It was one of the few projects around my house that turned out better than I even imagined. We had uses Friendly Tree for trimming and removal of trees -- now that I know they plant trees as well, they will be my go to resource for all my tree needs."

"Judith came onsite to survey the trees we wanted trimmed; she provided a firm estimate for our review; and upon agreement to go ahead with the work -- two days later the Nature Services team of four workers got to work to get the trees trimmed. They took care of surrounding plants; branches and trimmings were mulched; and areas cleaned from debris. They were prompt, efficient, quick, and very professional. Will recommend to family and friends."

"The job as promised went very well at a reasonable price. They worked efficiently & safely cutting down 80 feet tall tree & cleanly trimmed other surrounding trees. They cut the trees into firewood & stacked it neatly in my backyard. They gave me a nice chopping board (from their previous job site) which they screwed into a tree trunk they cut from my backyard which they carried onto my deck. Looking at it, it can be use as a chopping board when grilling or a bistro table- cant wait to use it in one of our bbq parties. The crew left my yard cleaner than when they came in. Alex the owner stayed on site the whole time working with his crew and making sure safety is maintained. Overall, Im very satisfied with their work & will not hesitate to hire him again. Thank you Alex and to your amazing crew!"

"The tree looks great now! This company was GREAT! Frankie - the owner  called me multiple times to arrange a time we could look over the job. He came and looked the job over gave me a very reasonable estimate. He saw I was on a tight budget and offered me different options to try and get the most important work done within my budget. The crew came at exactly the time they said they would - they called first to be sure i was there- and worked efficiently and totally cleaned up beyond my expectations! The tree loks great now!

"They did several things. The biggest takeaway is that this is professional establishment that gets the work done impeccably the first time around. The arborist is the real deal. It's not his side hustle. He only sent workers who respected me and my property. They made my middle income yard look like it belongs to homes three times the value. Nothing but a positive experience in every way."

Arborists questions, answered by experts

A chainsaw is the best tool to cut down a tree, but you may also use a handsaw or ax. You may also want to use a lopper or pole saw to remove limbs before cutting down the tree. Wear chainsaw chaps and protective gear, including eyewear and earplugs if you use a chainsaw. Again, if you’re unsure about how to use this tool, this project may be one to skip.

On average, tree removal costs around $750, with a typical range between $200 and $2,000. The final price depends on several factors, including the tree's height, trunk diameter, species, and overall health. Accessibility is also a key factor; costs will be higher if the tree is in a hard-to-reach area or located near structures like power lines or your home. Additional costs may apply for services such as stump removal (which can add $100 to $150), log-splitting, debris cleanup, and obtaining necessary permits. It is also customary to tip the professional, usually between $20 and $100.

Most trees can be successfully transplanted while they are young, but pines, walnuts, and some oak tree varieties are more difficult to move because their root systems grow deeper than most other trees. Also, trees adapted to sandy soil with wide root systems like beeches, willows, and aspens are harder to dig out because their roots spread much farther out from the trunk. In these cases, unless the trees are very young and small, it’s a good idea to consult a tree planting professional.

If you’re looking to rot a tree stump fast, potassium nitrate will work far quicker than copper nails. First, drill several holes into the stump using a power drill, then pour potassium nitrate pellets into the holes. Next, add water to help the chemical absorb into the wood, thoroughly soaking the stump to ensure the pellets dissolve and spread evenly. Afterward, cover the stump with a tarp to retain moisture and block sunlight, then place mulch on top to secure it in place.

After a big storm, you may not be sure if a tree was struck or not. Look for the telltale long scars, like strips or gouges in the bark of the tree, running in sometimes jagged lines down the length of the trunk. These scars will often show vulnerable living wood inside the tree. It’s also common to see scorched or wilted leaves on the side or top of the tree where lightning struck.
