"This experience was second to none! EVERYONE on the team was respectful, and professional throughout the entire project. The sales rep. and project manager carefully listened, and helped us decide on a roofing system that was right for our home. All materials were delivered on time, and before the project began, as promised. The supervisor arrived well before the roofing technicians. The lead technician, and technicians arrived on time, made the introductions, and immediately began the work. My home, and property were protected from the removal of roofing materials, at all times. There are often unforeseen issues that arise with construction projects, and I was consulted every step of the way, BEFORE any action was taken! My roof was completed on time. The technicians took pride in their craft, and their mastery was evident in the beauty of our new roof. The yard was left free of all roofing debris, it was if no one was ever there. My recommendation is an enthusiastic YES!"

"Denny the salesman was very nice and explained clearly everything that would be done. The crew arrived on time and finished the job in about 5 hours (roof installation). They did a great job and cleaned up nicely. The next day the gutter installation was done and it was done very well also. I would recommend Nu-Look Distributors for a roof installation."

Roofing questions, answered by experts

Tar and gravel roofs last an average of 30 years, which is longer than the average lifespan of many other flat roofs. The gravel on top of the waterproof membrane helps protect the roof from UV damage and physical damage, so if you keep your roof drains clear and carry out annual roof inspections to catch issues early, you could see up to 40 years of useful life from your roof.

There are several pros and cons of flat roofs. One disadvantage of flat roofs is that you lose potential attic space because it's flat. Flat roofs tend to pool water and because they lack an angle, any leak in the roof—usually due to a bad seal—has the potential to let in a lot of water. They don’t work well in climates with snow. Flat roofs are also structurally weaker than sloped roofs.

A properly installed, high-quality tarp can be left on a roof for up to 90 days. However, this is only a temporary measure and not a substitute for proper roof repair or replacement. Thinner tarps or those exposed to heavy wind and rain may not last the full 90 days, so it's important to monitor the tarp's condition to ensure it continues to protect your roof from the elements.

Generally, hailstones that are one inch in diameter or larger can cause significant damage to a roof. However, smaller hail can also cause damage, particularly when accompanied by strong winds, if it strikes an aging or poorly maintained roof, or if hailstorms are frequent in your area. Hail that is ¼ inch (pea-sized) or smaller poses a minimal risk of immediate, permanent damage, but cumulative impacts can cause deterioration over time. The extent of the damage also depends on the roofing material; hail-resistant tiles like slate or certain types of asphalt shingles can withstand impacts better than other materials. If you are concerned about potential damage after a storm, it is always a good idea to have a professional roofer conduct an inspection.

This will depend on your existing roof to some degree, but it’s common to raise a roof 4 to 8 feet. The exact amount you can raise is subject to the existing structure. For most homes with average roof slopes—20 to 45 degrees—you can raise the roof around 5 feet.
