"The carpet cleaning services provided by Alba Cleaning went well! Miraculously, they removed several stains from my carpet after hosting a large family Thanksgiving gathering, after spilling makeup and getting dirt from wet soil from the carpet. The price was reasonable, they were professional and quite efficient. I will keep them as part of my annual cleaning moving forward."

"They were very responsive, gave me a very competitive quote, and came within 2 days. Very easy to deal with, friendly, and cleaned up up nicely, leaving a trash bag of waste by my trash rather than gutter gunk on my lawn. I will use them next time."

"Ray was very responsive online and informative over the phone. He gave me a quote right away and stuck to it. Our window treatments are 2-stories, with very high windows, so not an easy job. Ray arrived on time, walked me through the process, and got the work done quickly and efficiently. I'm amazed at how much better the window treatments look! It's not an inexpensive process, but it sure is less than replacement. We had 3 long panels, 6 fabric blinds/shades, and 4 valances cleaned, in total, and they look new again! I will have Ray back for other cleaning jobs -- he was very pleasant, professional, and did high-quality work."

Cleaning questions, answered by experts

Preventive measures include keeping appliances clean, avoiding overuse, and storing them in suitable environments to prevent malfunction.

For special occasions, follow the same 15% to 20% tipping suggestion on the final cost of the service. Cleaning for holidays and parties can sometimes exceed $400, depending on if it’s a deep clean or involves more specialized requests (like yard clean up, unpacking decorations, or rearranging furniture). In which case, a $400 service would result in a tip between $40 to $80.

The best method for keeping your grout clean depends on the level of staining or discoloration. For light cleaning, use warm water and a stiff brush (specifically made for cleaning grout).

Tougher jobs call for a one-to-one solution of white vinegar and water in a spray bottle. Spray the area down, wait 5 to 10 minutes, then scrub with your brush. For even more cleaning power, add water to baking soda until it creates a paste and apply it before the vinegar. If the mess is too much, you can call a local tile and grout cleaner.

If you're already planning to hire an electrician and you know that you'll get billed the minimum call-out charge, you might as well make the most of it by having the contractor do another small job like replacing a light switch or electrical outlet. Even if you're paying for a new coaxial outlet, which costs several hours in labor, you may be able to save a little or maximize value by getting them to do other related jobs. For example, if you're having a coaxial cable moved, it's worth checking if you also need another electrical outlet in the new location or considering where else you would benefit from a new outlet . The cost to install an electrical outlet is around $200.

The best way to help a family member or friend declutter their home is to hire a professional organizer or cleaner to do it for them. However, you can also help them make a plan to tackle the clutter. Sit down with them and sort through the items, making piles of what to keep, toss, and donate. Focus on one area at a time to avoid overwhelming them. If they have trouble letting go of some items, ask them when they last used each item, what its purpose is, and whether it has sentimental value. The answers to these questions can help you advise them on handling clutter.
