Small jobs welcome

"Fabiano and Will went over and beyond on this project. Hiring a carpenter you have never worked with before involves a certain degree of faith. That's what I did when hiring Fabiano Construction to build a triple-tiered flower bed on my rooftop with a trellis on my Philadelphia row-home rooftop. I was not disappointed. Fabiano and Will are a great team, they are very kind and they do great work. What more could you ask for? I am having both of them come back to rebuild my grill countertop and cabinetry! I have no regrets using Fabiano Construction and I will continue to use them in the future!"

"Willie is just amazing!!! Totally blown away with the whole experience and quality of his companies work! He was quick to respond to my multiple questions and was a pleasure to talk to! Him and his partner went ABOVE and beyond! I had a list of things to get done for a local move. They unmounted and remounted my 60 inch TV, broke down and reassembled my adjustable bed frame(Which was huge and friggen heavy), put together big furniture cabinet, Took apart an old wooden bed frame and hung curtains rods for my bedroom windows. They were fast, efficient, friendly, informative and very reasonably priced! This guy does it all so if you need a task completed call Willie! 10 out of 10! HIGHLY RECOMMEND"

"We hired Andy's to remove a large rotting second story wooden deck and replace it with a new low maintence one. The contruction crew was professional and curteous throughout the entire process. Andy in particular was meticulous with every detail. We could not be happier with our new deck, Andy and his team built the deck of our dreams! We highly recommend this company, and we hope to work with them again on furture projects."

"I hired Aztec for major repairs due to termite damage. They were prompt, professional, and easy to work with. They came in less than 10 days after we contacted them to FINISH the work. First, they evaluated the damage and walked me through the needed repairs which included placing three new steel support beams along with two main horizontal wood beams and several sistered beams. They were able to complete the work, once they started, in three days. At each step, I was informed of progress and there were no surprises (from my end). The work included everything from removing electrical wiring and then replacing it, pouring the new steel vertical support beams, affixing them solidly into my concrete floor, and then pacing the numerous horizontal beams. I could not recommend AZtec (and Greg!) more."

Carpentry questions, answered by experts

One of the most common house framing basics for decades has been using wood for the framing work. However, some framing contractors now suggest using steel frames. Steel is lightweight, resistant to fire, and resistant to moisture, all of which are areas where wood framing could cause problems. However, steel framing is more expensive than wood and limits your ability to insulate the home.

Yes, a one-story house can have a load-bearing wall. The load-bearing walls in a single-story home are usually the exterior walls. If the house has a basement with exposed walls, the arrangement of the beams can help indicate what walls are load-bearing.

You can enclose an open carport, however, there are several things to consider before opting to do so. You'll want to check local building codes and permit requirements before proceeding to make sure it’s legal. While you can sometimes stick-frame a carport enclosure, pre-fab kits are also available. Remember that you'll likely need to meet concrete slab regulations and provide lighting inside the structure. Both of which could substantially drive up costs.

Converting a carport into a garage can vary in difficulty depending on its configuration, the condition of the foundation or slab, and its location relative to the house. The process has a lot in common with a home addition, but you can often skip non-essential finishes like fine flooring, trim work, or even drywall and HVAC. The conversion requires experience with drywall, insulation, and other building materials to ensure it’s done safely and correctly. While it might be possible for a DIYer with the proper tools and skills to do the work, it is a complicated and potentially dangerous job. If you’re new to basic construction, it's best to leave this project to the professionals.

Traditionally, bungalows are single-story homes, although having a half or partial story on top of the first floor is common. While adding a second story to a bungalow is certainly possible, the home would no longer be considered a bungalow by the strictest definition.
