"Marco and his team is a young team and very nice contractor. Their quality of work is professional that made me very happy. Project was completed on time promised. Line and level of deck lumbers were perfect, they fixed some additional items that were connected with deck for free as mine was an insurance claim as repaire was due to a fallen tree on my decks. I would strongly recommend this company. ð ð"

"Beware of your choices when selecting contractors. This company did not deliver what they promised originally and did not send the right professional to repair my steps and install the railings. After numerous phone calls and text messages to the contractor, he finally responded to my needs by showing up to the job and repairing the steps and loose railings himself."

"I called All Complete Construction for a free estimate on repairing shingles on my roof after having contacted two other companies to no avail. Once I contacted All Complete Construction he promptly had someone come and look at my roof the next day for an estimate. Their crews was very knowledgeable and was able to explain about some leakage problem I had last winter and guaranteed me that the issue would be resolved after fixing the sides of the house. I decided to go ahead and hire their services. They were able to fit me on their schedule on that same week and they were very professional with the way they handled everything. My roof is not flat, I had one other company tell me they had to charge me over 2k just to add some securities around the house as it was a very dangerous roof apparently. These guys were pros. They had the job done in one day and found a way to climb over my deck so they didnâ t have to come inside the house. They even have a drone and updated me with pictures and videos of the work. All Complete Construction is very professional company. I would definitely hire them again."

Deck Repair questions, answered by experts

Yes, Ipe is more expensive than Trex decking—both in terms of materials and installation (plus, Ipe trees are endangered). On average, Ipe decking costs $10 to $25 per square foot, while Trex decking costs $5 to $12 per square foot. Because Ipe is harder to work with, the price of installation is higher, too. For Ipe decking, you’ll pay between $20 and $45 per square foot for labor. However, with Trex decking, the labor costs range from $8 to $22 per square foot.

The best direction for a gate to swing depends on its location and purpose, but swinging inward is the general rule. An inward swing is often considered safer, prevents the gate from opening into public spaces like a sidewalk, and may be required by local building codes.

There are exceptions and specific considerations. If your property is on a slope, an inward swing might not be possible. For a deck gate, it's safest to have it swing away from any steps. In a backyard, the direction can be a matter of preference, though an inward swing can be helpful when carrying heavy items like a wheelbarrow into a garden.

Regardless of direction, ensure the gate can open fully without hitting any objects or blocking spaces. While an inward swing is standard, a gate that can swing both in and out offers the most flexibility if your setup allows for it.

Ultimately, overapplication of stain can compromise the deck's appearance, durability, and longevity. It may result in an uneven finish, with excess stain pooling, dripping, or drying into thick patches. It can also obscure the wood's natural grain and texture, detracting from the desired aesthetic. Moreover, excessive staining may not fully penetrate the wood, leading to poor adhesion and premature wear. Additionally, thick layers of stain are prone to peeling, cracking, and blistering as they struggle to bond with the surface.

It’s important to make sure the wood on a new deck is properly seasoned. Seasoning a deck is simple: Once you build it (or have a pro do so), just leave it alone so it can acclimate to the environment. If you don’t give the deck proper seasoning time before staining, the stain can lock in any lingering moisture and cause mold, rot, and other moisture issues down the road. Give the wood at least four to eight weeks to season before you stain.

Some elevated decks require stairs that lead to the ground level per the local fire codes in some municipalities. In other regions, a staircase is an optional feature that can increase accessibility and convenience for homeowners who want ground-level access to their deck. Additionally, a staircase is necessary if your home doesn't have an existing door leading to the deck.
