"Everything went smoothly. Bathroom & Kitchen King finished the project within the estimated time frame and contracted budget. Vincent and Harry were very responsive and kept me informed. When Harry came to do the estimate, he left me with some contacts at vendors he works with so I could get an idea of the products available to me. He was proactive without being pushy which I really appreciated. Mike and CJ were the guys working in my house day to day. They worked efficiently and cleaned up at the end of each day (I realize this benefitted them as well, but it was nice to not have to work around in-progress in a gutted kitchen for several weeks). If any issues arose, they consulted me, so there were never any surprises. Mike and CJ were very accommodating to me and my parents who live with me. It was a pleasure to have them working in our house for the duration of the project. I would happily recommend Bathroom & Kitchen King and their crew."

"I have reviewed Zzeo's before when they came to frame and expand our closet. We were so pleased with them, we had them come back and do a lot of things that needed attention. They can do anything, and do it well. Once again, prompt response to our phone calls, and came over the next day. Such a relief to have these guys to rely on! You can't go wrong when you hire Zzeo's!"

"Excellent work. We purchased natural cherry cabinets in shaker style, with the panels made of solid wood rather than veneer. That is more difficult work, as each panel has to be constructed from several planks. Moreover, the clear finish would leave any flaws more visible. Simply put, the doors are beautiful--flawless in both construction and finish. They are similar in quality to custom cherry furniture we own."

"Niko and Walt did an excellent and professional job of tearing out and installing a new backsplash in our kitchen and tile floor in our laundry room. The work was done promptly, clean and at a reasonable price. Will definitely use them again in the future if needed."

"I found Jim Ryan to be professional and helpful. The shelves and hanging pole in my bedroom closet collapsed. He was here the next morning just as snow was starting, went out to buy the system I needed and got the entire thing installed within two hours. He is also giving me a price on installing a new kitchen island with dishwasher. And when the weather gets better, he will organize my garage and hang cabinets. He had good ideas and his prices seem reasonable. He was very personable and his workers did a good job. By the afternoon my new closet was up and running again."

Closets questions, answered by experts

Yes, 12-inch shelves are often considered the standard closet shelf depth for storing folded clothing, shoes, and small containers. However, if you plan to store bulky items such as blankets, baskets, or cleaning supplies, you may want to go deeper. For specialized layouts, an adjustable system can give you more flexibility.

There are certainly luxury upgrades you can make but you can seriously improve the look and functionality of a closet without spending much money. Color matching will make the closet seem bigger so any shelves painted the same as the wall is a good tip. While pre-made closet organizers may seem expensive they offer an aesthetic look that's hard to achieve with DIY methods. Lastly, removing clutter and unworn items will help the closet seem bigger and cleaner.

A standard walk-in closet has dimensions of 7 feet by 10 feet at a minimum and an average of 100 square feet. Remember that the dimensions of the closet aren’t necessarily the usable space. This means that a 100-square-foot walk-in closet with shelves on each wall and an island may only have a walkable area of 50 square feet or less. Make sure you consider the effect of additions when you plan the room—mockups are a great idea.

Yes, books are typically heavier than clothes, unless you have a collection exclusively of paperbacks or comic books. That’s why packing lots of books warrants careful planning and consideration. Consider packing up your reading collection first to determine whether you need to downsize it before loading it into your moving truck.

Custom closet renovations offer a return on investment of 50% to 60%. This means that if you spend $2,000 on a closet remodel, you can expect to see your home's value increase by $1,000 to $1,200. Investing in a custom closet allows you to enhance your daily living experience while building equity.
