Emergency services offered

"Since May 2011--when I purchased a home and a buyer's home warranty-- I have had three electric-related issues (ceiling fan replacements and electrical wiring issue) to which Dico Electric responded.  The most recent was circa January 10, 2012.  In each cases, I found Dico Electric representatives to be conscientious and helpful which was really exemplified during their last service call.  Specifically, Dico Electric volunteered to come to my home in the early evening to examine an electrical wiring situation which was obviously of concern to me.   The fact that they made a late service call saved me from coming home from work early the next day (that translates into dollars and cents!) As well, at the same time, I felt better that the electrical issue was reviewed and resolved very quickly by a professional.  I noted that their mission/vision statement, which is stated in detail on their business card says, in part, "It is our goal to provide the best service and to exceed your expectations..."(mission statement) and 'it is our goal to be the only electrical contractor you will ever need  (vision statement).  Based on my experience, DICO went above and beyond in meeting my expectations and I will be using them again in the future."

Install Central Vacuum questions, answered by experts

No. Only the hose or the attachments are portable in a central vacuum system. A portable vacuum is a standalone model like a stick, canister, or upright. A central vacuum system is defined by a central power unit, which is installed in one place like an AC unit, and the connected network of piping to funnel the suction.

They’ll use more electricity than the average upright vacuum, but not remarkably more. Most power units plug into a standard 120-volt outlet and don’t have significant power demands. You shouldn’t notice an increase in electricity bills. If you have any specific questions about energy costs, ask your installer as you examine purchase decisions. Larger power units will need more electricity for their suction levels.

Before deciding whether or not to install a central vacuum system, consider the pros and cons to determine if it’s right for you.

Pros

  • Increased suction power

  • Improved air quality

  • Reduced noise pollution

  • Longer lifespan than traditional self-contained vacuum units

Cons

  • Higher upfront installation costs

  • Expensive repairs

  • Requires significant storage space

Experienced professionals don’t usually need to take down drywall to install the central vacuum. They are experienced in working in the tight spaces between walls and in crawl spaces to minimize any damage. The only drywall changes should be the holes cut for the new outlets. However, home design, existing plumbing, and other factors may require some modification. An estimate from a professional contractor should include information if any changes need to be made.

A central vacuum system can be a worthwhile investment depending on your needs and budget. While the upfront cost is higher than a traditional vacuum cleaner, it offers significant long-term benefits. These systems can save you time and make cleaning your home easier, as you only need to carry the hose and vacuum head, eliminating the need to lug a heavy unit up and down stairs. They also tend to operate more quietly and can improve indoor air quality. The convenience and performance over many years may make it a valuable addition to your home if you can budget for the initial installation.
