You can technically just paint over hairline cracks in plaster since these cracks are often harmless, but this will mostly be a waste of paint. Paint will only hide the hairline crack for a few months before it shows up again. The best solution is to repair the crack with flexible filler or joint compound before repainting.

The only time that it's okay to leave a paintbrush in water overnight is when you're trying to remove dried-on paint. However, don't allow the bristles to rest on the bottom of the container. Remember that soaking it longer than necessary can damage the brush.

You can paint over cracked paint, but only if you properly sand down the damaged areas. Once the surface is as smooth as you can get it, clean the walls and let them dry before applying a new coat of paint. Grip the plastic seal with the pliers and pull the seal up, moving around the seal until you’ve pried the plastic up in enough spots. Then, you can grab the seal and pop it off the top of the paint can. Depending on the strength of the seal, you may even be able to remove the seal with just your hands by pulling upwards.
