As long as the humidity and temperature inside your house are moderate enough to allow paint to dry properly and your room is properly ventilated, it’s perfectly fine to tackle an indoor painting project even if it’s raining cats and dogs outside.

Like any paint, the magnetic type has a shelf life. Depending on the formula and manufacturer, the paint can last between 12 months and 5 years for an unopened can. But even magnetic paint with a five-year shelf life can go bad sooner, depending on the storage location and temperature. Opening the tin and improperly resealing it also expedites expiration.

If your paint smells funky and is still lumpy after stirring, this is a sign it isn’t usable anymore.

It’s important to wait until the drywall is completely dry before painting the wall. This can take up to 24 hours. If you paint while the drywall is still wet, the paint could bubble, peel, or have trouble sticking to the wall. To speed up the drying process, you can turn on a fan, run a dehumidifier, or open windows.
