"Nick was easy to work with. He moved his schedule around to accommodate my plans over a holiday. When he got here he discovered that the ceiling was more textured than he expected. He did not charge me more and matched the texture very well. I’ll send photos once it’s dry so you can see how excellent the match was."

Small jobs welcome

"Justin (owner) was strong with communication, trustworthy, efficient and showed up and completed the job when he said he would. He was thorough, cleaned up after himself and did a really nice job fixing some drywall and door frames for me. Would highly recommend Berube construction!"

Small jobs welcome

"We hired EDG Construction to repair a bathroom wall and patch some areas in the garage. They did a great job, especially fixing peeling and cracked areas in the bathroom—it looks smooth and clean now. They were professional, on time, and easy to communicate with. The husband-and-wife team is very kind and pleasant to work with. Highly recommend!"

Customers say: Quick response

"NH Projects LLC Timely and meticulous . Showing great attention to detail. We had some water damage and the floors and some walls had to be replaced. We had an old electric heater that had to be disconnected and they placed a call to a electrican and he was here that day , we also needed a plumber and they were able to get a plumber here also the same day. Talk about a complete package. We were beyond pleased. 5 ***** stars no doubt. Paul & Christina from Nashua NH."

Drywall questions, answered by experts

A 50-pound mirror can be hung on drywall, but only if it has the support of strong hardware. Ideally, you can find the studs behind the drywall and attach the mirror to them; this will give your mirror better stability. Otherwise, confirm that you are using anchors appropriate to the weight of the mirrors. Another technique is to use French cleats—two pieces of wood that fit together, with one piece attached to the wall and the other to the mirror. This allows the weight to be distributed over a wider area.

You can take a few steps to save money on drywall installation, even when hiring a professional to do the bulk of the work for you. These ideas include the following:

  • Buy the drywall and other materials yourself to avoid product markup and delivery fees

  • Ask about discounts if you use the same company to tape, spackle, and paint

  • Hire drywall professionals in the winter when demand is the lowest

  • DIY as many parts of the project as possible, like replacing insulation and painting

On average, drywall installation costs around $2,000, with a typical range of $400 to $6,000, including materials and labor. The final price depends on several factors. The most significant is the size of the area, as many contractors charge per square foot. Other cost factors include the complexity of the job (e.g., cutting around multiple windows and doors, corners, or curved walls), accessibility, location, the thickness of the drywall, the height of the room, and the desired level of finish. The level of finish can range from simply hanging the drywall to taping and mudding the seams and painting the walls.

If you’re installing new drywall, you may need to skim coat the drywall first for a smooth finish and to allow the primer to adhere to the wall. It’s only necessary if there are imperfections in your drywall due to issues with the studs or improper drywall installation. If you’re refreshing existing walls, you may want to skim coat if there are imperfections across the wall. As an alternative, you can repair your drywall and sand it for a smooth finish before painting.

You should always hang drywall from the top down. Starting at the top makes it easier to create a straight, tight line between the ceiling and the wall. Any gaps that occur will be at the bottom, where they are easier to manage. You can either cut the bottom piece of drywall to fit the remaining space or cover the gap with baseboard trim. Additionally, starting at the top is physically easier, as you won't have to fit the top sheet into a tight space between the lower sheet and the ceiling, or try to balance the upper sheets on the lower ones while securing them.
